Any Suggestions On Finding Actors For . . .

Roles actors hate to do where no one will recognize them and they have no dialogue?

I have one of these roles filled. But, I'm having a heck of a time filling three more. The one that got filled is by an older actor in his upper 50s.

I don't see why you should have problems finding actors for any part, "big" or "small." Especially if you are in any close proximity to New York city.

Where are you advertising and what's your ad copy?

This is why it is a serious struggle for Indies IMO.. Im dealing with some of that on my current set, I am shooting a scene that requires some individuals and they are not really "extras", they will have some lines, many actors do not want to do a no-budget project w/o getting lines and cred for the work.

You & I as filmmakers gotta work thru that ....

I understand the issues of the people in minor roles, they want a chance to prove themselves and we need bodies. Heck being a body can get you a credit, but we all want what is best for ourselves on both sides of the camera...

Networking, networking, networking and you gotta make those connections and sell them on the project to make it happen is what I'm learning.
Finding people that you can make cherished relationships in this thing called filmmaking is key to success, if you have someone who you have great working relationship with makes it easier to call and ask a favor in the future. I also see that as the person making the film, I have to deliver on quality to make it worthwhile for the talent.

I remember over the years watching the hollywood set on TV talk about working with others, one of the most important things they said about another in the biz is how well they work with others...true in all endeavors, but more so in the entertainment biz. You gotta make them feel wanted, needed and that they will be working on an important and promising project. there is a large talent pool willing to give if they feel that they will get recognition, respect and something for their reel

The actors will be covered head to toe in silver coverall costumes playing non-human silver demon hunters and their roles are all action with no dialogue. They will look the same so they can be recycled to be killed over and over by cyborgs. I'm bringing in a stunt coordinator from Los Angeles to work out the acton sequences with them.

I advertised in Mandy.com. Amazingly, this time I'm getting several good candidates to fill our new cyborg roles. The new candidates have stage fighting and lots of acting experience. And, I have an ex-Green Beret to train the cyborgs in Special Forces combat and tactics.

They will get credit for their roles in the production, both screen credits and IMDB credit. The production is a short being made to help fund raise features to follow. That's enough to get a lot of actors interested in a lot of the roles. In two days I already have 88 submissions.

It's just no face no dialogue is a turn-off for too many actors.

I can't remember who said it: "There are no small parts, only small actors."

Back when I was struggling and even as a working musician I would do new and different things just to get out of the rut, learn something new and/or meet new people. As long as I at least was compensated for my OOP expenses - and I was treated well - it was a positive experience; and quite a number of them proved profitable down the line in one way or another.

It goes without saying all their expenses get covered. Food, travel, costumes, training, and everything else. For the actors who need makeup for their roles, I bought a makeup kit for the last production. And, the actress in charge of that is returning and told me last night she will help the new members with their makeup.

Too many no name actors let too much ego get in their way where they will only take a role that makes them the big star where they get the biggest percentage of dialogue and camera time. Some of them are so delusional they imagine they have a great fan base. So, when you ask them, "And what have you done to have such a great fan base?" All they can say is "I'm going to be a great star." This is what we have to deal with when we have to cast actors on the small low/no budget scale.
