I've been reading THE MAKING OF THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK by J Rinzler. It's an amazing book with all kinds of detail and minutiae that mostly only filmmakers can appreciate about the process of making a film.

In particular, I just read a quote that scares the hell out of me because I've been using this metaphor in the editing class I teach for the past 9 years...

George Lucas says:
Making a film is like building a house. The script is the blue print. The shoot is just the collection of raw materials and the edit is actually the construction

I had never read this precise quote before, but I've used this analogy for so long that it was terrifying to read it almost verbatim from one of my heroes as quoted from 30 years ago.

This book is tops and I'm not even done reading it.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE MAKING OF THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
