off-topic Also dealing with health issues

It seems like it's been a pretty tough year for some of us health-wise. By way of explanation as to why I've been absent from the forum of late I'll add myself to that list. In recovery after my second kidney stone surgery...one last procedure in about a week (at least I hope it's the last). These were huge stones (7mm and 10mm) that seemingly popped up out of nowhere and refused to budge, so needed to be blasted. Anyway, recovery is going well and I'm back able to work on my projects. I'll be happier once the stent is out....then there's the RA flare but that's being dealt with...

Okay - enough whining and on to work! Thanks for listening!🙂

Well, when it comes to reasons to complain, I'd say kidney stones are about as legitimate as it gets, lol. I had kidney stones about a year ago and the pain from those things is no joke. Best of luck with your recovery!

Thanks! Hopefully my urologist can figure out why I'm suddenly getting these!

The causes are usually dietary right? Not enough water, eating too much vitamin D, eating high oxalate foods.

I read microdosing calcium helps with high oxalate foods.
I also take steps like peeling and boiling my sweet potatoes instead of roasting them, since boiling decreases the oxalates.

I have multiple chronic bladder conditions, that's why I am terrified of kidney stones, the co-morbidity would be unbearable.
Most people don't alter their diets for a condition they've never experienced.

There are differing opinions on causes; kind of like a medical mystery. I modified diet accordingly, however, although I wasn't really guilty of too many of the non-no's. I drink a lot of water, which (as you said) is one of the main problems.
So sorry to hear of your bladder conditions...kidney stones on top of those would NOT be a good thing. There are tests now apparently that can indicate if your urological environment is prone to stones and why. I'll post back if we discover anything as to cause.
