treatment Adapting someone elses treatment

Is it okay to adapt or use someone else's treatment for a similar movie into one of your own?

I decided to adapt the thing II treatement into my Raise the britannic movie. New charachters, no aliens, same structure with some obvious modifications. more recent setting, being set in the 80's would be cool but I decided to set it in 2010 or 13 so My actress wouldn't have to wear ugly Bonnie Tyler hair.. and people wouldnt say tubular or relax dont do it every ten seconds.

still kept the 80's feel because I'm going for a john carpenter or ti west type feel. down to the 80's plastic model effects. (I hate unneeded CGI)

If you're using it for inspiration, it's fine; plus, you can't copyright ideas.

It sounds like you've just seen an idea you like and are adapting it for your own story, so there should be no problem.
