Of course, almost all of what is scripted is dialogue and not action, but as a viewer, would a film get samey if there were recurring themes/scenarios?
I have written a script which relies heavily on the interactions of several characters. A fair few scenes start with nonsense conversations. I count at least 5 instances of conversations which do not contribute to the plot, but contribute to character building or minor side points/plots. Would you think ti was just trying to be filler?
Each conversation is joined part way through, some examples of which are:
"...which is why I would never go to France."
"I'm telling you it was fruit loaf, not fruit cake."
"What do you mean, what's Sven short for?"
