A Question about Editing

Hi,

I understand that while editing film, you can first do an edit on the computer and then cut the reels to match.

My question is - can one record on film, telecine, then do a full NLE on the computer? This would notionally be for the aesthetic advantage of shooting on film with the time (etc.) advantages of digitization.
