CALL FOR ENTRIES
The creative playing field is leveled at Whistler’s annual Olympus 72hr Filmmaker Showdown. Post-production trickery, exotic locations, superstar talent and big budget advantages are made irrelevant when filmmakers are tasked to shoot, edit and produce a 3-5 minute short film within 100km radius of Whistler over the course of 72 hours. Relying purely on originality, craft, speed and endurance, (not to mention excessive consumption of coffee), the Olympus 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown distills the art of film-making into its purest form – getting your creative vision from concept to reality in record time in order for it to be enjoyed on the big screen by an 1800-strong audience. The 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown gives deadline superpowers – three rotations of the Earth on its axis makes for a no-holds-barred creative frenzy and the most in-demand film screening of the year.
An esteemed review panel will choose the best films from scores of entries for screening at the Gala Screening in Whistler, BC on Tuesday, April 16th. One winner, Best of Show, will be chosen by an expert panel of judges and will take home $10,000 in cold hard cash and $5,000 in prizes!
BACK FOR THE 2ND YEAR! Olympus is offering an additional $5,000 bonus prize if the Best of Show film is shot exclusively with Olympus gear. Olympus will also offer the first 25 teams that express an interest the opportunity to borrow product. See below for more details.
ENCORE! New this year, there will be a 2nd night of screenings for the 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown on Wednesday, April 17th for our People’s Choice Award. Voted by the crowd, this team will bring home a cash prize!
ENTRY
Advanced online registration is available through our website (http://www.wssf.com/event/olympus-72hr-filmmaker-showdown) until Friday, April 5th, 2013. The entry fee is $50.00 per team. While the filmmakers may register late by attending a mandatory meeting on Friday, April 12th at 9am at the Whistler Conference Centre, ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Due to the popularity of the Filmmaker Showdown we cannot guarantee registration at that time. Space is limited and entries will be accepted based on availability only.
