Join us for an interesting look at one woman’s lifework through the world of 3D animation in feature films. See how the high tech world of special effects and animation are changing the way films are made today.
Angela Eliasz, a native of Rochester, graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1993 with degrees in Graphic Arts and International Marketing. Beginning in 1994, Angela spent three years at Animatus Studio learning the fundamentals of 2D hand drawn animation. It was during this time she was introduced to the use of computers in aiding the process of commercial and industrial animation.
In 1997 she was one of thirteen international students to be accepted for postgraduate work in 3D animation at Sheridan College in Ontario, Canada. After completing her course of study, she eventually landed a job at Square Pictures in Hawaii. There, Angela worked on Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, the first 3D feature film to provide photo-realistic and visually convincing human characters.
Soon after, Angela moved from being a 3D lighting technician at Square to a technical and lighting director for Sony Pictures Imageworks. She has since worked on major motion pictures such as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Stuart Little 2, The Matrix: Reloaded, The Haunted Mansion, and Spider-Man 2.
She is currently working on Sony Pictures Digital's new animated feature Open Season a buddy film about a 600 pound domesticated Grizzly bear named Boog (voiced by Martin Lawrence) and Eliot, a scrawny a one-horned mule deer (voiced by Ashton Kutcher), stranded together in the woods during hunting season.
