2008 Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival Announces Call for Entries

Cedar Rapids Independent Filmmakers is now accepting entries statewide, nationwide and worldwide for the 2008 Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival, to be held April 4-5, 2008, at the Collins Road Theatres, 1462 Twixt Town Road, Marion, IA. All entries must be received by January 25, 2008. Entry fee discounts apply to entries received by January 4.

All genres are welcome and there is no date-of-completion stipulation. Films are accepted from anywhere, but must meet the criteria of having an “Iowa Connection.” This qualification requires that an entry has an association with Iowa such as a key crew member or actor born, lived, educated or worked in Iowa; a story set in Iowa or about and Iowa topic; or part or all of the film produced in Iowa. For full rules and other festival information, please visit www.crifm.org/enter.html.

Entry fees are: Pro-Am and Professional: $40 per entry, or $30 if received by January 4; Student: $35, or $25 if received by January 4. Each paid entry includes a private critique session with judges, Full Event Pass and 2008 Festival shirt.

Gold and Silver Eddy Awards will be presented in Professional, Pro-Am and Student categories for features, shorts, documentaries and experimental films. The Festival will also award an Audience Choice Eddy, and Iowa Connection Eddy for the film that best represents Iowa. Over $4,000 in software, scholarships and certificates will be awarded.

As a new feature this year, entries will be processed online by our very own processing and payment system. Printed forms are available on the Web site or by calling 319-431-1320.

The 2008 Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival is open to independent filmmakers who wish to showcase their productions and network with others. Festival screenings are open to the public. In addition to screenings and awards, the festival will also include seminars, guest speakers and other activities for filmmakers and attendees. The Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival was created to provide a venue for Iowa filmmakers to show their work and for the general public to view the best of the state’s filmmaking industry.
