Wow, my lack of writing abilities never cease to amaze me. That sentence is meant to say: I'm looking to captivate the audience, not manipulate footage. Lol. Thanks to everyone who has left a suggestion. I started a free two week trial membership at NetFlix and I'll pick up as many as I can. =)

    Documentary recommendations

As I'm in the middle of writing and editing and directing my first documentary, I'd like to take a look at some of the best from the genre. I've been on YouTube, MySpace video and the IFC Media Lab watching selections from their “documentary” sections, but, they're, err, not so good. I've...

    Tutorial: Freeze Frame Titling

Save and close your photo editing software and head back into your video editor. Import the new media files you just created. On your A Roll video track, insert the unmodified still frame picture. Make sure it butts up against the last frame of video for a seamless pause. Give it an appropriate...

(Note to Moderators: Not sure which forum is the appropriate one for this. I gave this one a shot, feel free to move the thread around if needed.) I've seen similar variations on this effect used at the beginning of TV shows to introduce all the characters, usually mid sentence. I'm making a...

watch "Five Stories" (short, silent film) (critique please)

Thanks Will, the response everywhere has been pretty positive for my first piece. That really makes me want to dig into the next project, which looks to be shaping up as a short documentary on the printing press and printing techniques. Interviews are in progress now. =) Thanks to everyone...

    ITOOFC 5 is here!

One way around that is to maybe provide 10 or 20 required pieces of dialogue? And then each participant can write any movie/genre around those 10 or 20 pieces of dialogue that they'd like. The phrase "Would you like to learn to fly? Would you like to see me try?"* can either be from a warm...

missing file formats - stupid macs

I get an "Error -2048: the file is not a movie file" message when trying to open it with Quicktime. I'll just wait for his reply, thank you though Will. Perhaps he Stuffed It before sending it. I don't know if Winzip will open Stuff It packages, let me go google the file extension...

missing file formats - stupid macs

My friend from Portland shot an interview for me (I'm in Chicago) for a documentary I'm working on. He uploaded the file to my server, but there's no file extension. I tried adding various file extensions to see if Vegas could open it (.mp4, .mpg, .mpeg, .mov, .avi, .qt) but none of them worked...

    My Self-Distribution Plan

Thanks for sharing Jim! I was just on the Deadroom site after reading your post on another thread. The film looks like a winner and I can't wait until copies are available. Sounds like a solid distribution plan, I iwsh you luck.

watch My very first short... ("...and it looks spectacular")

Oh but it's not an automatic disqualifier? I've been looking into a few fests and I haven't seen any that say they won't accept a film that's been posted online. I thought I was missing some universal rule here and was about to go pull it from MySpace. Also, wouldn't the first festival you show...

Wait, why would it be inelegible for fests if it's posted online?

watch "Five Stories" (short, silent film) (critique please)

Link updated. I switched it over to MySpace because the mono collapse (on iFilms) took out half of the soundtrack and the compression is better on MySpace.
