Visual Effects After Effects Production bundle is a good app, but Discreet's Combustion is a better value. Not as many tutorials and how-tos or trained users for Combustion, but I'm finding it quite excellent. Boris Red and Commotion Pro are also useful tools. And don't forget Photoshop!
