series What series are you watching?

I just binged Sunderland ‘til I Die on Netflix and it’s great, even if you don’t like soccer/football and docs. It follows a team in the UK as they try to make it back up into the Premier League, but a lot of it is from the perspective of the fans and the people behind the scenes. One thing I...

distribution Completed 15 min short film... now what?

Of course, it depends on what your specific goals are: make money, get a career going, make another film, get famous, etc... +1 for Film Festivals, generally speaking. It's a fantastic way to meet all sorts of people (I met a guy on a bus, who got my number, he then literally won an Academy...

marketing Best way to get exposure for my film?

I've been in the same boat many times. I LOVE making short films (mostly documentary) but I've learned to have very specific goals about distribution and exposure - because, as Mlesemann pointed out, nobody cares as much as you. I made one short just because I needed some car and action...

watch Hollywood told me I need a celebrity to make a Travel Show, well GUESS WHAT?

NICE! Thanks for the feedback. Yeah we love some good genre bending. We have no idea what to call it either.

Music website? Hire a pro? Or DIY.

Ha! Nice. Thanks man! Glad you liked it. Check out the band Wargirl - they did all the music for our show. Hopefully, in the future, we'll be able them to actually SCORE the show for us (this was all pre-made, instrumentals they had in the library).

watch Hollywood told me I need a celebrity to make a Travel Show, well GUESS WHAT?

Hollywood was right. But that didn't stop us. I've been making films for other people for 15 years, and I wanted to make something of my own. So I spent the last three years developing, filming, editing, re-editing, pitching, re-editing, re-naming, and re-editing a travel show pilot, and...

Music website? Hire a pro? Or DIY.

I work in the music/film world (mostly documentaries) and most of the time I find temp music on YouTube's music library to find the right mood, and then I'll usually hit up a composer (or band) I know to sub in/compose the final music. But that way I'm able to experiment with different...

    Are you brand loyal?

Being a documentary filmmaker, I gravitate toward utilitarian qualities. So with cameras, either Sony FS7 for its 4K, XLR audio, and built in ND, or, if I have the budget and personnel, Arri Mini for its simplicity and delicious interface and post work flow. Lens wise, I’ve been fairly partial...

camera Timelapse with Regular Speed at Same Time

Hey! I LOVE this effect. Back when I was directing music videos, I did one for a band called Cold War Kids doing this type of double timelapses/real filming side by side and layering them. I had the luxury of having 2 or 3 cameras, but you could totally do it with one if you have some control...

camera HELP! 90s music videography- cinematic beauty shots

Hi! Sounds like a cool project. Most the videos from that era were shot on 35mm film, which had/has a lot of latitude (depth) so getting a proper (s35) cinema camera would be a great start - something like a Red or Arri Mini. Then, and probably more importantly, some fast prime lenses...

directing "Aroha" - A New Zealand Travel Short Film

Great stuff! Very cool edit transitions and good balance between close up textures and big wides. And great overall pace! What gear did you use to shoot it?
