Pretty much. I received a "finalist" notification and thought that meant I was in and a finalist for an award or something. But no, my film didn't even get into the festival. So it's certainly misleading. Don't assume anything until you get the acceptance email. It's kinda dumb, really.

I know this forum says "(FESTIVALS NO ADVERTISING HERE)," so where can a new fest announcement be made? I'm a filmmaker here and I've started a new fest. Don't want to break any rules, just like to spread the word.

I'd say money is best spent on fests you can attend. Go local and spread outward.

I'd rather click on a thousand links to watch the films play online than pop in a thousand DVDs. And what festivals cost $100 to enter?

How about making a trailer with that info at the end and putting that online with an extra bit of text saying "now playing in theaters" or something like that? The best of both worlds.

Not only was there dead silence, but I tried two phone number associated with them, and both were out of service.

I'm pretty sure it was accepted. I saw on their FB page after the fact that we won Best Trailer. I doubt they would give out that award to a film that wasn't accepted.

I made every effort to contact them. When it seemed that their festival was a scam, I decided to cancel my trip to avoid spending even more money by trying to attend a non-existent festival. How can you not see this? Are you a contrarian or part of their festival?

Wow. I'm really shocked at the totally distorted viewpoint of "indyfilm." You seem to look at the world in reverse. To answer your question, sfoster, I saw pix on their FB page of the festival and parties, but don't know if/when my film screened.

And back to the Tampa area for the Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival over the weekend. A good second-year fest. They show in an actual theater and plan out parties every night. Nice awards ceremony on the final night. And their emails are hysterical. Very straightforward and honest.
