You could take actual fire, use it as a luma matte to control a secondary to make the saturation/gamma/gain change. It is the sort of thing that should be fixed in a compositing program more likely.

Nope! The only real monitor issue you could run into is that computer screens wont accurately display fields. However, this is not an issue with 24 fps material.

Wire removal is totally a situational problem. Simple "wire removal" tools work super well sometimes and other times you can't get around a patch and restore situation. I work as a Flame artist and am always happy to answer or help with people's projects.
