any small/ medium size festivals to reccomend?

Some of the nearby festivals I have researched seem to have an obsession with really expensive films, most of the time when I see the official selection it looks like it cost quite a bit of money to make. Apart from that I keep on hearing that most festivals basically do not pick that many films...

any small/ medium size festivals to reccomend?

Hello there I have entered around 4 pretty large festivals with my most recent film and I am looking for some smaller festivals to enter into. Preferably either near Holland or Germany (easy to get there from my town) or in the United States of America. For America I would probably only be...

    Cheating...

haha indeed there could be al sorts of nasty shocks involved with not having sex before marriage. Also involving the plagarism argument my theory on it is that if you watch Seven Samurai and are inspired by it then copy away. If you are stealing somebody elses idea and making it yourself then...

been given an invite to a film festival

So I have recently been ignoring the festival circuit and have instead been screening films locally to audiences. Anyway I have received an email from a film festival called "American Online Film Awards" saying that they think one of my old films would be a good fit into a showcase next year...

    "Amateur" Filmmakers making feature films

I think the main issue is that in the current film industry the first feature is a big test of whether or not you can make it. Unless you can pick up traction on your feature it can quite easily be seen as a fail. Plus the costs between making a feature and a short are massively different. Even...

Hurt Locker Producers Will Sue 24,500 People for Torrent Downloads

The hurt locker still made a profit and I do not think the piracy crippled it really. Besides it is incredibly ineffective to sue 24500 people. Like picking up one piece of pasta, cooking it and then placing them individually on a plate.

Thoughts on the new Mac Pro???

I think it is a beast but sadly I do not have the cash or the paid work necessary to get one over the imac. I could afford the most basic tower this year but sadly needing the monitor and other peripherals would lead to a wallet busting 3.5 to 4k pound bill . Involving the non upgrade ability it...

    Extremely new guy with questions

Hello there I personally would recommend that you make your first ever film shorter, a 3-5 minute simple short will help you to get the hang of it before you try and do anything more complex. Especially as action scenes take longer than dialogue.

What things do a lot of new filmmakers miss when making their first movie?

Audition your actors/actresses and also arrange another time after saying yes to meet up with them. Be flexible when it comes to booking the initial time and date making sure they are very sure they can make it. If they do not show up and do not give you any warning throw their CV in the trash...

Stills from the new movie Black Magic

I like the look of the second shot mainly for the noise on the footage, reminds me of those B movies with their nice film grain.

    Dilemma

What did you put in the advertisement? I have advertised for Cast and Crew through Starnow for several projects and they have shown up for free with their own equipment. I don't understand how you would have been taken down as there are quite a few adverts for crew such as these ads...

    Dilemma

The problem is LDS is that you will not be able to post a narrative video online without any marketing, pushing, famous names, festival accolades and expect 100's of thousands of people (or even thousands) to watch it. You can complain about how much the UK sucks for making films and how you...

    Heya guys

Thought I would introduce myself. I have been directing short films since 2006 and have been doing small promotional videos and live events videos since 2009. Having graduated from university last year I have been doing lots of odd jobs in media as well as holding down a couple of jobs in...
