Which comes first, the script or the budget?

Even at the low budget for me, I like to start with the script. If it's good enough, We'll figure out how to do/cheat/afford the parts that are challenging monetarily. The script also dictates schedule and all of the deadlines for the completion of preproduction elements like costumes, etc.

How long can a scene last in a montage?

I agree. What can you show rather than tell? When I'm looking to produce a script, my first task is to open to a random page and look for the balance of action to dialog. I know that if there's a 50/50 balance, the writer has taken the time to describe the world without having to resort to...

    Recording interior of car

Tape a lav/s to the rear view, or the dash (perhaps hidden in the vents). Back seat, under the front seat head rests. Works like a champ… or just clip them to your subjects and let it rip! Zoom in the middle of the car and one L/R input for each subject.

How much contrast is too much?

On set, to allow for better exposure in camera and more control over the look, we costume with no pure whites, blacks or reds as it allows for a shorter latitude that will fit into the color space of the camera more readily. We can then turn the REALLY dark gray pants and REALLY light gray...

    Are movie trucks really necessary?

It's also set design, framing, costuming, lighting, acting, directing, hair and makeup, props, extras. Lighting is very important, but is one little piece of a much larger puzzle. The reason there's huge credit lists on big hollywood films is because they hire a lot of REALLY specialized crew...

    Lighting Tutorials?

Started working on an animation that will be the basis for my tutorials… When lighting, I find it most important to know what effect a light is going to have before placing it. In order to do that, one needs to know how light behaves… Not necessarily at the subatomic level specifically, but...

Question about mixing lights, that you want to be the same in the movie.

If you can't frame out the fluos, you have to balance everything else to them. huge plus green sheets for the windows and plus green to the tungsten. Then white balance for fluorescent. Or, change the shot so you can block the window light and allow you to gel just the tungsten toward the...

Longer to light, more footage to catalog and sift through, I prefer single camera.

Question about mixing lights, that you want to be the same in the movie.

You can buy sleeve gels for the fluo tubes, or bounce light off the ceiling and turn the Fluos off, and frame the ceiling out so we don't see the lights.

What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

Can't afford CC. Can't justify the continued expense at this point either as paid video work is few and far between. The onetime windfall / save and spend once model fits my life much better.

What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

Financially, I spent $1000 on Final Cut Studio and shake. 10 years ago. I'm at $100/ year with no specific upgrade necessary at this point. How much is creative cloud?
