How far off am I on the basic concepts?

I think you're right. If you are not doing, you are not learning. With so many talented people around you already, would consider creating a collective while you are making test films? It's easy on the purse and a great way to work. It takes a lot more stamina but you will find the flakes drift...

    Mentioning facebook and twitter

You don't need permission to mention them or any other brand name. You only need clearance to show the brand.

The director of Snow White and the Huntsman never did a movie before!

Directing ads will help you to get directing features but only if they are really good. Look at the quality of design and creativity and imagination of Ridley et al. They are very different from the a lot of the ads you see. Ridley, his brother Tony and Alan Parker came up with some of the most...

What VC are looking for to fund projects.

When VCs invest in high budget features, they tend to do so via funds with otherVCs, so they spread the risk. Most if these funds now deal exclusively with studios and a handful of mini-majors. When they invest in lower budget features they tend to do so as angel investors but hedging the risk...

How far off am I on the basic concepts?

That makes a lot of sense, and is it a feature? Are you to produce, direct? Hire really experienced people as heads of department. The upm/line producer and 1st AD will organise and run the shoot for you, I would spend the most money on these people, and choose people who explain things to you...

Cygnus, what do you mean by a test film? Just curious.

How far off am I on the basic concepts?

Okay, I take that back about the teaser trailer...a little bit. If your teasers look like this and your campaign and media material can be this beautiful, then yes, do it. http://www.ironsky.net/site/

What is the budget of your movie? I can make suggestions if I know what you can afford.

How far off am I on the basic concepts?

You will need to shoot a pitch video if you are doing crowdfunding, which you should do after you have a budget, and if you can, after you have cast a couple of actors. I don't think you really need to shoot a teaser unless you have zero directing experience. Directing a short beforehand is...

    Actor Managers...

Whether other producers wish to advertise the fact they opt out is up to them. Many choose not to because they are subjected to ill-informed diatribes, other like George Lucas don't care who says what to them. I am one of many people who have opted-out, legitimately. Just because you have not...

Taft-Hartley guarantees US employers the rights to hire union labour on non-union projects.I won't name other people's films as that is for them to do but I have one feature which has opted out. I can pretty much guess that you will reject both of these, so I say again, go talk to a media...

    Actor Managers...

I understand that you are just repeating what your union has told you and it is in their interest to keep people believing one thing over another, but do me a favour and talk to a media lawyer at one of the established media law firms before you say anything else.

As I said, they do not promote the fact that you can opt-out but you can.

In the UK you are not allowed to defer 100% of anyone's salary or fee. Just bear that in mind... Are you directing, producing? Is it a short or a feature?

    The Woes of Finding Investors.

How did this go for you, JSmalls? I hadn't joined the site when you posted. On my last feature we raised our entire budget through private equity and less than 10% was from friends. We asked a lot of wealthy people for smaller investment amounts that would benefit their tax position. For...

Cygnus, This is how it should be done whether you are micro-budget indie or Lionsgate-level indie. This also how the mainstream industry works 1. Write or buy a script that is basically GOOD 2. Create a schedule, post-schedule and a budget based on that schedule (location prioritised budget...

That is not correct. You can opt out of SAG/ Global Rule One as a production. They are perfectly valid and actors do not get kicked out unions for working on SAG opt-out movies. Talk to any media lawyer and they will tell you how it is done. I know this for a FACT.
