    Motion picture film cameras, 1888-2011

The three major manufacturers of motion picture film cameras — Aaton, ARRI and Panavision — have all ceased production of new cameras within the last year, and will only make digital movie cameras from now on.... http://www.salon.com/2011/10/13/r_i_p_the_movie_camera_1888_2011/singleton/...

The Screenplays you read, that helped you become a better screenwriter.

That's a good point, at my screenwriting meetings I go too, 99% of the time the screenplays are horrible, but that's a good thing because it helps you learn "what not to do".

The Screenplays you read, that helped you become a better screenwriter.

What are the screenplays that you've read that have helped you become a better screenwriter? In my opinion, reading a different screenplay a week, is probably better then reading any book on screenwriting, taking any class, or listening to any advice someone gives you... Reading a really good...

    I love that AHA! avalanche.

When I'm starting new screenplays, one thing that's helped me, is nailing down a real good logline before you begin anything. Along with that, when I'm starting out, I like to immediately think, "where's the conflict?". I make a list of the worst possible things that could happen to my...

Why do we care if it was a dream?

We care because we aren't stupid. We've seen this cheap-trick so many times, it's become cliche.

    DV tapes, obsolete by 2011

The OP is wrong, they are still making DV tapes and the market still exists. They are still making Super 8mm film, you can get it from Kodak. Hell, I know of Network reality shows that still shoot on tape. Mini DV will be here for awhile.

Why do some Film Festivals not take DVD?

I ask for all of the copies back, and I tell them my reason. Most comply, some don't. Yeah, my point is though, if you've got a good film, guard it with your life. It'll one day hit BitTorrent, so it's good to prolong this event the best you can.

Thinking about turning down studio distribution deal...

Wow, if what you say is true, this ranks up there with the top 10 stupid things I've heard this month, falling somewhere around #7 or #8. If it was a subsidiary company of Lionsgate, I've got a good guess of who they are, and at this current time, they really aren't handing out advances too...

I have 2 celebrities attached to my feature, now need to raise money, any suggestions

Like people said, a lawyer is a guaranteed must. A good manager is a must. And an agent. Depending on the theme of your movie, I'd attempt to get "influencers" involved. In other words, rich powerful people that live the "theme" of your movie.

How Do You Introduce Yourself To A Genre Market?

Hmmm... Here's three ideas off the top of my head, never thought about this genre market, but I do know the potential audience is rabid and crazed for fanboy type material. You could start your own meetup group in your area that pertains to your subject. If your a PT Barnum type of guy, you...

Thinking about turning down studio distribution deal...

Well, I'd like to think I'm a pretty reasonable kind of guy! No for real though, after some people snort that line of success which is completion of your screenplay or film, they will often become grandiose, losing sight of reality. It's good to think highly of your work, but the secret is...

    Another Documentary Idea. Thoughts?

Honestly, I think the idea is overdone. I've seen this theme in commercials, fundraisers, network television shows, documentaries, ect. I'd say it's similar to the "homeless man" documentary idea, it's been done before. Now here's something I'd like to see, I'd like to see a documentary that...

Thinking about turning down studio distribution deal...

Rumors killed the Radio Star. I mean Movie Deal. Look, I don't agree with the notion, that everyone's first film is automatic shit. Sometimes the stars seem to align. :) But I will agree, that if you have an ignorant shit attitude, your business affairs will suffer. I'm going to go out on a...

Thinking about turning down studio distribution deal...

I hate to add fuel to the fire, but it's already been poured on generously. The OP got a good dose of Karma, he completely humiliated himself. He's basically let the world know, via a film-making forum that he is unprofessional, delusional and quite arrogant. This thread is a great educational...

Does Anyone Have Experience With A PR Firm / Rep.?

I think it really depends on which Publicist you go with, I know there is some really good ones, and also some really bad ones. All I know is hiring PR firms for films that are already completed with a marketing budget in place, and here's what I've learned... #1 The good ones have the...

Why do some Film Festivals not take DVD?

Yeah the bigger festivals we've played at require the better deliverables, and the small festivals do fine with a dvd copy. Once you sign a distribution deal, you will be providing them with these different formats anyways. I will say this, and I'm surprised nobody has brought this up. Often...

    Best Screenwriting Blog?

Yeah UNK was a favorite of mine back in the day, but they shut down his blog unfortunately. He's still active though, and I recently spoke with him, and it was very positive. He's a real inspiration. It's funny, when it comes to screenwriting, the best thing you can do is just simply, "write"...
