Should I be directing if I want to write scripts?

Go to filmmaker meetups and make friends with filmmakers. A few years ago I was begging for content to film. I love brainstorming ideas but I hate writing scripts, so I went to all my friends that were writers and couldn't get any of them to bite. So here I am 3 years later writing my own shorts...

Question on Adobe Premiere Pro and film festivals

I've never edited a documentary or submitted anything to a film festival, but my solution for what its worth would be to letterbox the lower resolution stuff. Leave it at the scale that it looks best and just put a black background behind it.

    60FPS

I will admit I only have a marginal experience on higher frame rates so if I say something wrong I apologize. That said I only think its useful for slow motion. Recording and playing at higher frame rates gives the footage I've seen that soap opera look that I can't stand.

    Hello from a zero-experience newbie.

Look for local film groups. In Columbus, Ohio we have MOFA, the Mid Ohio Filmmakers Association. They do random competitions through out the year and so there are people always looking for help in groups. Also there are 48 hour film project competitions and what not. Basically look around for...

Is it true that screenwriting is an easy job?

Coming up with story ideas and outlines is super easy. It's my favorite part of the process. However, hammering those ideas and concepts into a script that is worthy of being filmed... that's another beast entirely. I can outline an entire movie in about a day. Writing the script though takes me...

[Jul 10] What are you working on this week?

I've been miserable for the past 4ish months or so. Getting out of bed and going to work has been hard. But I'm finally starting to get a little energy back.. for now. I need to start running again and taking cold showers (as silly as it seems they work, at least temporarily) That said I have a...

[Jul 10] What are you working on this week?

Conquering my crippling depression as well as writing my super duper final draft of my short after a successful table reading. Also getting preproduction stuff started. I feel like I'm walking through cold molasses.

Do you prefer Film or Digital Cinematography ?

I've never worked on film so right now due to costs and ease of use I love digital but I found a company that rents 35mm cameras in Columbus and would love to just try shooting on film at least once just to say I have.

How to get this shot?(from Requiem for a dream)

Are you talking the close-up of the desktop that is sped up or the shot that has the mom? For the desktop you should be able to use the time remapping under the spfx bin. I'm at work so I don't have premiere in front of me at the moment but you should be able to just drag the effect on top of...

    A little exposure problem...

Are you using the technicolor profile? If so my experience was that it was always over exposing vs what I had in the screen.

    How to achieve this photography

You can get the yellowish color in camera just by mucking around with the white balance. Just make it a little bit warmer. Here is the original video for anyone that is curious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=?v=eMVNjMF1Suo

Does an indie horror film, have to have gore to be likely successful?

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) is a great horror movie that has almost no gore (surprisingly) Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead is a great horror movie that has tons of gore. Pick your poison.

    Little Red Riding Hood

No problem. Just remember I want a special mention ;-). its weird though that you posted this at this moment when I was thinking about doing a Little Red Riding Hood short the other day that involved werewolves.

    Little Red Riding Hood

You can steal my idea for a treatment I was writing. Little Red Riding hood works on a Ranch and goes by the nickname Red because she has Red Hair instead of a hood. She has to deliver something to her grandma but is warned to get there before night. She goes on her way and meets a strange woman...

    thriller project

Right now the script I'm writing is probably going to be too costly for me to film unless I win the lottery or have a rich relative I don't know about put me in their will. So what I am planning is I have already written a bunch of extensive back stories for all the main characters that can be...

Want to Shoot in a School. How do I get Permission?

Also you can probably check out a local college as they usually have some smaller rooms that look like High School classrooms that usually aren't being used. Also as a potential fyi when you are talking with the school staff on the phone you are FILMING and not SHOOTING. Just might help stop any...
