    Paying Actors

And I think that's perfectly fine. I've done that many many times before myself. It's just surprising for me to hear that most actors don't have a set rate.

    Paying Actors

I guess so. I just don't see how we can help actors or any crew member to make any financial decisions (or any decisions at all) in their life if one week they get offered $2k and next week they only get $100. There is gotta be a better business model to provide cast and crew with sustainable...

    Paying Actors

Hey directorik, thanks for the answer! "As a director you don't walk into the actors "business" look at the quoted price and and say "The job is your yours." I agree, you don't hire an actor based simply on the quoted price. As a director/producer it would be in my best interest to hire an...

    Paying Actors

Oh man, feels like I haven't been here in ages :) Ok, got something I need help to wrap my head around. I'm a freelance filmmaker, making short videos for companies. I have a set $ rate for my services and every time a company contacts me to make a video, I give them an estimate how much each...

    Hiring actors and their rates.

Directorik, totally see your point. I see how "send me your rate" could be seen as a deciding factor if they will get the part or not. I am totally in the wrong in that way and you re totally right. :) Thank you

    Hiring actors and their rates.

This is the way I see hiring an actor could be. I send out casting notice and get a handful of replies. I audition actors and after picking few potential ones, I see what else can they bring into the project beside their acting chops. Do they have social media presence that I can market to? Do...

    Hiring actors and their rates.

I decide which actor to attach based on their potential to bring me a return (not always monetary). If I get an actor who doesn't fit the part, their rate wouldn't matter to me at all. Also, when I shop for a contractor I never go for cheapest one.

    Hiring actors and their rates.

Nope, no one is toying with the actors. I'm looking at it as a construction project. When I'm building a house I call contractors and ask what their rate is. Same should be applied to hiring cast and crew. I know it's not "standard" in creative community, I just don't understand why.

    Hiring actors and their rates.

"if the actor wants a million dollars for a day's work, your producer will pay whatever the actor asked?" Of course not. But following that analogy, if actor is asking me, how much I'm willing to pay them as I say "$1", will they agree to work? "I think SAG has a schedule of rates, depending...

    Hiring actors and their rates.

I ve ran into an issue where I was looking for an actor do some some commercial work (actually more like an instruction video). My producer told me we will pay whatever the actor will want us to. When I posted my audition notice and asked actors to submit me their rates, I got a blacklash of...

Princess Leia is a prison thug

In anticipation of December 18th, we made a short filthy fan Star Wars video with a little twist haha There is an obscene amount of profanity being spewed out of Princess Leia, but if you like it, it would be awesome if you could share it among your friends and audience...

    investment point questions

haha my bad! Ok, I think I get it. In my case, investors own 50% of the movie. However, to own 50% of the movie, they must invest their money into an entire budget. So we take $200k, divide by 50, and get 4000. So one Point = $4000.

    investment point questions

Thanks, directorik! In my extremely simplified case I didn't add anything for "off the top", just to keep math as simple as possible. My main confusion is the Point system. So, crudely speaking, a "point" is a percentage of profit, that is based on an initial investment? If Bob and Bill...

    investment point questions

My main confusion is trying to understand how much money is one point of 250,000 budget. Is it $2,500 (1% of a budget) or $5,000 (2% of a budget)?

    investment point questions

I got myself confused on the whole "investor points" and need someone to untangle me!! Ok, so lets say, my total budget is $200,000 I have two investors who want to invest into my movie. Bill invests $10,000 (5% of the budget) Bob invests $190,000 (95% of the budget) 1. How many investment...

help with an idea for a short

Read it. I d suggest not to shoot this. For your first movie it is going to be extremely difficult to shoot , obtain locations, choreograph all the actors. Your story sounds like it's a simple shoot, but there are many many things that can and will go wrong. Go simple. 2 actors at the most...
