    DigiBeta

Usually, for foreign the standard digi delivery is a Digibeta with 4 ch digital audio: CH1 & 2: Full Stereo Mix CH3 & 4: Music and Effects Track However, you can get 6 tracks from a DA-88, which is also a standard delivery. It's audio only, and it can be layed down from your FCP OMFs. Cheers...

Student Filmmaker Seeking Advice On Funding

I would think that you could purchase a lightly used camera, use it for a month, and then re-sell it for around the same as you bought it, less the shipping and additional wear and tear (if any). You would end up losing quite a bit if you did this with a new camera, but the newer used HD cams...

Student Filmmaker Seeking Advice On Funding

OH, you could always buy one on Ebay and then turn around and sell it back for nearly the same amount! Again, my previous statement stands: only do it if you can afford to buy it, in case it is damaged.

Student Filmmaker Seeking Advice On Funding

Return policies are not per product, they're per retailer. Do your research, see who sells them, and then decide if it's worth it. I personally would never do something like that to a small, indie retailer, and I would NEVER do it if I couldn't afford to buy it, just in case it gets broken. Film...

    Dvd stickers.

I like the on-disk inkjet printing method! As long as you set your margins correctly, it comes out super professional.

    Tv Screen reflection

I agree with the projector method, with a twist: Throw the projector through a 2'x3' square frame of heavy gel and some nets to knock the brightness down and viola! You even have the rectangle of a widescreen tv reflected in the actor's eyes! (It's actually reflecting the frame of gel - if you...

Student Filmmaker Seeking Advice On Funding

Just produced a feature on the HVX at 720PN. Definitely recommend it: in the short term it's cool because you GREATLY increase your drive space, and in the long run because you have a direct 24p to 24fps transfer should you be lucky enough to transfer to film. Plus the variable frame rates being...

    Method/Procedure to Cast Actors

And this is why I have slowly become enamored with IndieTalk. The openness to dialogue. I can't wait for the Script-to-Screen Challenge!

Student Filmmaker Seeking Advice On Funding

ACK! I didn't realize that you hadn't even finished the script. Regardless of what, where, when or how you shoot your film, you must concentrate on the script. All this planning is not wasted, but many times setting up the shoot and organizing your gear is just one more way of not...

    Method/Procedure to Cast Actors

Using recognizable actors can be a great way to jump start your career, but remember that if you're using SAG actors, you don't get the luxury of doing back-to-back 18 hour days to get your shots. No offense to directorik, but I recommend that you plan out your shots and schedule accordingly...

    16 mm, top ten tips

BE BOLD. An experienced Gaffer should reign you in, but there's nothing more dissapointing than getting to the end of a shoot and having a SAFE, A.K.A BORING film. Although, perhaps that's one of those things one must learn AFTER shooting a project on film. I learned the hard way, on a...

Student Filmmaker Seeking Advice On Funding

Funding and Making a No-Budget Film My experience after producing 3 features (and directing 1 of them) is not particularly uplifting, but here ya go: Financing is the hardest aspect of filmmaking for me. (Many cite distribution as the hardest, but simply put, I find it harder to sell something...

    Method/Procedure to Cast Actors

Touche Robert; my suggestion above applies only if one has specific actors in mind.

Good Indie Camera for around 3500

Depending on your experience level, you might consider purchasing the HVX200 without any cards and using it with tape stock until you can afford to rent or buy the P2 cards. It would be well worth the additional $2k on your credit card. Although, I've just come off of a feature film where we...

    Method/Procedure to Cast Actors

I've found through talking with friends that there are three simple things to getting most actors to work on your short film: 1) Have current, valid SAG paperwork 2) Send a OFFER LETTER to their agent. Even if the offer is LOW, it still shows the actor that you respect their talent and it...

    ITOOFC 5 is here!

How right you are, Will! I'm open to whatever, as I need an excuse to practice directing actors before my next feature. However, for good reason I'm naturally cautious when it comes to others writing the script... Like I said, though, I'm down for the contest regardless. Cheers! Jim

    Be a friend - eeeeek!

(I've already added you...) I think MySpace is wonderful, personally, as a grassroots tool to gain market awareness, a privilege that until recently was available only with studio advertising dollars. Sweet! -Jim

    ITOOFC 5 is here!

I LOVE THE TREATMENT SUGGESTION. This allows the filmmaker to write in their own style, and I'm stoked to not be limited to a certain TYPE of film. (For example, I personally don't wish to make a comedy - that's not my thing, and I don't care to have a comedy on my reel.) Cheers!

    ITOOFC 5 is here!

Not to be a party pooper, but I would rather see the script before committing to the contest. -Jim

    ITOOFC 5 is here!

I like the idea, but of course it all depends on the script. Once the script is picked, you'll see who wants to be involved. Personally, when I read it, I'll be looking for one thing and one thing only: does it affect me? Regardless of a competition, one does not want to waste one's time on a...
