Cheapest cameras that are still effective for filmmaking

I really like the look of 8 and 16mm, but the hassle involved in developing and transferring is not for me. What formats could you guys recommend that still have that warm, grainy feel, but look professional? And most of all, are dirt cheap? Are there any professional quality Hi8 cameras out there?

    FS: Canon Autozoom 814 - AS-IS

I have this Super 8 that I bought a while ago, but it's just been laying around. It doesn't power on or make any type of sound, so I'm selling it as-is. I don't know much when it comes to these, I bought the camera out of impulse and sort of tried to fix it but never with any luck. The only...

    questions about super 8 Film

I believe 50 feet is about 4 minutes of footage. You'll want to get Kodak Ektachrome 64. Any renowned video supply store is reliable, and on ebay you can usually get a great deal on a package of rolls.

    Possible problems with my 814

I can't seem to get it taken apart. I took out all the screws visible from the outside, but nothing comes off. Where can I find out how to do this?

Ok, thanks. I remembered that check list, but I just thought, "What the hell, it's on $70." I'll try to fix it, or just sell it. Thanks

    Possible problems with my 814

Haha, no problem. But no, the guy didn't say it ran, he just said that it made a humming sound when the zoom buttons were pressed. He sold it as-is.

    Possible problems with my 814

Yeah, it's on. I have pushed the red button next to the window for battery check, but it doesn't move. There isn't a white button though. This is the 814 Electronic Zoom camera, not the other one (not sure what it's called) Not sure how to get the thing apart. There are a few small screws on...

    Possible problems with my 814

Well, I'm not sure how to get into the handle where the batteries are. I'll try taking out the screws.

    Possible problems with my 814

Oh, I just found an old corroded battery in the case, and I'm thinking it may have been in the camera. I can't see any obvious corrosion in the handle though. If it were corroded, what would I do?

    Possible problems with my 814

Well I'll open it up and do that. My soldering skills are decent.

    Possible problems with my 814

The leads being the springs that the batteries touch? I don't think so. Doesn't look like it.

    Possible problems with my 814

I got my Canon 814 today, and it may not work. I just need to know if I'm doing something wrong. The thing is in great physical condition. I put brand new batteries in, but when I pull the trigger, nothing happens. Same with the zoom buttons. I can't hear any motors running. This is my first...

Transfering old 8mm film onto disk

You'll have to telecine them, which is transferring the film to DVD or other digital formats. You can send them in to a number of companies and have them developed and put on to DVD. If they're already developed, you don't have to go to the trouble of doing that. I think there are units that...

Got my first Super 8, need some help!

Ok, I got a projector today for free, and have a few questions. When I project, the light rectangle has some fibers in the picture, and I've clean the lens, so I'm assuming it's something inside the unit? Is there anything I can do about this? Also, how loud is a projector typically? This one...

Got my first Super 8, need some help!

Well, he said when he puts batteries in and presses the trigger, it rolls. I know it's a risk, but even then I can go back sell it for more. The seller has 1000+ feedback on ebay, but obviously he doesn't know much about super 8. I'll see what happens, I guess.
