    Filmmaking is too damn expensive

And unless you're independently wealthy, don't get into this business. "The movie business is the worst business I've ever seen in my entire life" - Kevin O'Leary from Shark Tank

Amazon Video Direct free VS iTunes $1,000

In case you haven't noticed, Blockbuster and Hollywood video stores are pretty much gone and Best Buy only carries the hits. You're looking at Internet distribution, which means you DON'T NEED a traditional distributor. Personally I wouldn't even bother printing DVD's. I'd go 100% digital...

    editing 720 X 480 VS 720 X 486

I want to export a movie to sell on YouTube for $1.99 or whatever. It was shot at 1920 X 1080 but I want to bring the file size down for YouTube so I'm not uploading a monster sized file. I guess I should choose H.264 at 720 X 480 w/ letterbox right? What's with this 720 X 486? Why the extra 6...

    editing Delaying sound 1 frame?

I rendered a smaller file type. Audio looks good now. I think my computer just can't handle so much video data.

    editing Delaying sound 1 frame?

No. It's lined up in my timeline compared to the waveform. When I render ProRes 22 video it seems like it's maybe slightly off. Could be my imagination. Not sure.

    editing Delaying sound 1 frame?

I replaced all dialog and sound for my feature. I thought lined up the sound pretty good with the video. Maybe it's my imagination or maybe something in the playback is causing this, but after rendering video it looks like the sound is rushing a little bit. Can you shift the sound back a frame...

editing Ever sumbit to Amazon Video Direct?

Why were you not able to upload it? Did you get an error message or something? So Amazon pulled video off your DVD?

editing Ever sumbit to Amazon Video Direct?

What was the file size of your feature film that you submitted to Amazon Video Direct? I just rendered my 90 minute movie and it was 39 GB. Does this sound normal? I encoded in ProRes 422. I decreased the aspect ratio to 1280 from 1920 and it was obviously still a huge file.

editing Higher qual: H264 or MPEG?

Actually my old version of Final Cut does have ProRes 422. That makes like easier because Amazon accepts the .mov wrapper with ProRes 422.

Amazon Video Direct free VS iTunes $1,000

In the past if you wanted to sell your movie on demand as a digital download you had to pay about $1,000 to get it distributed on iTunes. Now that Amazon launched their video direct service, who in their right mind would pay $1,000? Seems like a game changer. Glad I never caved in to paying...

editing Higher qual: H264 or MPEG?

Doesn't that mean essentially upgrading Final Cut Studio (for $500 or something like that)? Again I'm using Final Cut Studio I.

Subtitle Workshop SE (FREE) http://subworkshop.sourceforge.net/download.php URU Works (FREE) http://www.uruworks.net/index.html UPDATE: I like YouTube's captioning better than the above program. You have to first validate your YouTube account (they text you a code) in order to upload a file...

You should post a page with tips on how to do it. I'm hoping that I can use YouTube's caption code as my benchmark.

editing Has anyone done captions for their movie?

The only problem is that AFAIK with Amazon you can only upload 12 minutes max. To work around this you could either upload your 90 minute movie into 13 sections OR upload the first 12 minutes, then take that .srt file and manually edit the code, inserting dialog and time information. I think...

editing Higher qual: H264 or MPEG?

editing Higher qual: H264 or MPEG?

According to Wiki Prores 422 was introduced in 2007 with Final Cut Studio 2. I ain't shelling out $600 if I don't have to. Depends on the settings? Well here's my other 2 choices.... MPEG-2 Supported containers: MPG, MPEG, M2P, M2T, M2TS, TS Profile: Main Recommended bitrate for...

editing Has anyone done captions for their movie?

Nifty trick! I just found out that you can upload a video to Amazon and use THEIR caption creation engine to get your .srt file. No need to pay $5.50 per minute.

editing Higher qual: H264 or MPEG?

I'm looking to export video for Amazon Video Direct. Which is higher quality: H264 or MPEG? I would use ProRes 422 but I'm using the old Final Cut Studio, which predated ProRes 422.

editing Has anyone done captions for their movie?

"All videos published in the United States must have English captions." I'm finding out that Amazon Video Direct requires captions. Uggggh!!!!! Always something! I was surprised to find out that it is a whole ordeal to get captions into your movie. One company charges $7 per minute with a $70...
