Your highlights aren't totally blown out (there's still SOME detail), so you might be able to help it a little by reducing the highlights and a bit of the midtones with a three-way color corrector (http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/products/all/magic-bullet-colorista-free/). I know that the paid...
It's not too much of a distinction, but I like the "golden rule" even better than the rule of thirds. It isn't talked about nearly as much (probably because it's harder to remember), but it's the same idea, except the point of interest is at the golden ratio of the frame (.618 in any direction).
I'm probably the last one to the party, but I just discovered the "Storm Freerunning" video on Vimeo. In case you haven't seen it, enjoy: http://vimeo.com/17391435
What is really inspiring about this video is the fact that there was no budget and relatively little equipment for the whole...
@brunerww -- Wow, I can't believe I've never seen that article before. That resonated with me more than any other article I've read on the subject. Thanks!
Haha, sorry about the unsolicited advice. @OP, if it wasn't clear, please don't go right out and drop $2,000 on the entire Rokinon set.
If I hadn't given it then, I probably would have blown it off later :D
From what I hear, you can't go wrong with the $100 Canon 50mm f/1.8 -- I haven't personally used it however.
If you happen to like the look and usage of the prime lens, then I would recommend your next step up be to look at the Rokinon manual prime lenses (the branding may also be Bower or...
I was recently contacted by someone online who wants me to make them a music video. If we agree on a price, how would I get paid for this? Paypal? Something else? Also, do taxes apply to Paypal (the internets are pretty vague on this one)?
Has anyone else done an exclusively online...
Yeah, that's kind of what has put me off doing any sort of audio work: the cost is too prohibitive. By the time I have the money to get all the tools, I might as well hire someone else.
But surely there must be a more basic level of audio post production? I don't have DaVinci Resolve for...
Believe me, I have definitely taken your advice to heart -- bad sound means a bad overall product. But my problem is, instead of spending the money to get better production sound, I just avoid it. Pretty much all of my projects consist of music on top of the video.
I think the reason for my...
Out of pure curiosity, would it be possible to see any of this director's work on YouTube or Vimeo? I realize you haven't given a name in this thread, and I don't want to slam anybody, but I am really curious as to how the final products come together.
Keep in mind that the vast majority of people won't watch the full 2 GB version anyway (or 500 MB for that matter). YouTube will compress it further so people can download it in a reasonable time.
Judging by the positive response on the video page, you seem to have struck a chord. If works like this were more common -- things that start a conversation in a non-judgmental way -- we'd all be better off.
@richy, from a purely technical standpoint, the hacked GH2 is better at video than cannons of comparable price (an argument can be made for the 5d's full frame). Problem is, there is such a larger population of people shooting video on Canons, so the probability that somebody who is good at...
@Cracker, Fernando, and CJNixon
These are the top 10 that I'm in the mood for currently (although a top 20 list would be much better!) --
1. The Prestige
2. Warrior
3. Shutter Island
4. Bourne Trilogy (Ultimatum if I have to choose one)
5. The Assassination of Jesse James
6. Where the Wild...
