How far can you cheat 'geography'?`

Hey joey - yeah I thought about doing exactly that - think it would work except for one thing - the door in the other room opens the wrong way, so it would be to the left of the character in one shot, and to the right in the next :/ One thing I did think of is flipping all the footage that we...

Do the actors in a slasher film have to be goodlooking?

Hey, that's pretty good :) Steve Buscemi's no oil painting to be sure, but he does have a really INTERESTING face with those crazy eyes... http://chickswithstevebuscemeyes.tumblr.com/

How far can you cheat 'geography'?`

Awesome examples, thanks very much! Both work just fine don't they? I must say the car one is particularly impressive as you really cannot tell at all, even when you know about it (think the colour grading helps tie it all together a lot). The other one is a little more noticeable when pointed...

editing Is there anything that cannot be fixed in post?

Sounds like you are going to struggle to fix those black areas in post. Even if there is some very dark information in there it'll be horribly grainy / bandy if you bring it up. You should always try and expose so that nothing is clipped at the top end but your darker areas are still well...

archived-videos Happy Valley Incident --- the movie

Does look VERY Blair Witch. Now I like Blair Witch, a lot. But... like joey says it needs something to differentiate it from all the other wannabes out there. Blair Witch with aliens? hmm... maybe - but the trailer just looks like Blair Witch at the moment. News footage at the start was well...

Filming with a Treatment but no Script?

Timecode by Mike Figgis was shot like this, and in continuous takes, and I thought it was pretty good: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timecode_(film) Had the added interest of having four different viewpoints on-screen simultaneously with the audio switching between each viewpoint as it got...

How far can you cheat 'geography'?`

Oh and thanks for the sound tip FrankLad - again it's something I've noticed in the test is that sound continuity and sometimes sound on cuts really helps with the flow - but hadn't thought of adding things like cars driving past etc to increase the number of audio reference points the viewer...

How far can you cheat 'geography'?`

Thanks for the advice people! Rayw - don't know why I hadn't thought of just testing it in that way, but I hadn't! :) At the moment I'm creating a test version of the movie by cutting together rehearsal footage and audio and (crappy) animations done in Maya so that I can get a feel for the...

How far can you cheat 'geography'?`

Hi there, I'm in the process of storyboarding / making an animatic for my first short, and I'm wondering how much I can get away with in terms of locations not actually being in the same place. For example, the main character in the film has a shop with a front customer-facing section and a...

Looked really nice and the sound and music worked really well. Did seem more like the start of something than a thing in itself though.

    Production Diary: Stockholm Santa

Good luck with this, script looks promising! 8 is a little young for a stalker though, wouldn't you say? I think it exists in its own little universe enough for you to get away with it though :)

Do the actors in a slasher film have to be goodlooking?

(That was basically my way of saying don't make a by-the-numbers slasher pic by the way - surely there's enough of them already?)

Do the actors in a slasher film have to be goodlooking?

If you're making a by-the-numbers give-the-people-what-they-think-they-want slasher movie then it certainly helps, because the only reason people watch those movies is for cheap thrills and looking at attractive people (usually in various states of undress) fits into that category. If there's...

archived-videos Check out my two latest Horror Shorts - feedback needed

Watched "Anyone there?" Really professional looking - nice cinematography, lighting and colour grading and good music and sound. Story was a little cliched I thought - I know its a fairly straight horror and its quite difficult not to be in that genre, but things like: 1. Attractive woman gets...

archived-videos Out of Commission Official Trailer

I thought the main character was very engaging to watch, the other actors were mostly decent too and the script was good, certainly had me smiling in places. So yes, the lighting and cinematography isn't going to give Ridley Scott any sleepless nights, the sound could have been better, and...

Finally, "Quickie in the kitchen" is completed.

Great job, looked pretty pro, editing and camera work was spot on - and I certainly wasn't expecting the ending! :)

    color-grading First Color Grading attempt

Wow, I don't remember The Crow being so blorange! My memory of it is super desaturated - nearly black and white, but apparently this was not the case :)

top-list Terry Gilliam shares his top 10 lessons for directors.....

Yeah, Time Bandits is one of my favorite movies of all time. He's not lost it either, though I thought for a while that he might have - but Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus was flippin' ace too. Go Gilliam!

    color-grading First Color Grading attempt

Good first attempt - vignetting is a little too strong for me. Also don't fall into the trap of using THAT colour scheme for everything - a LOT of films use it and its starting to look pretty cliched. Push it to the logical extreme and you get this abomination...
