idk if i'd really call 40mm on a crop sensor "wide" :P can you mount it on the underside of the lens so the bar that sticks out is facing downward?

archived-videos not exactly a music video

I appreciate the honest and concise feedback. This is all great stuff I can relay to the writer/director/ex-actor  I have been working with him for the past 6 months on music videos and boring paid jobs, so I really encouraged him to write and direct his own film, so he could understand...

    lighting The Backlight

not sure if this is what you mean, but I used a hair light mounted on top of a wardrobe once, which made it possible for the camera to move around the scene because the "stand" was a prop on the set anyway

archived-videos not exactly a music video

here's another project i worked on while simultaneously working on "charge". my friend was writer/director/actor/editor and i was DP/colorist. it was really nice to have only one job on a set and perform at 100% instead of splitting up my efforts into five or six jobs. anyway, here it is. AETERNUM

feels good! second year in a row at this fest actually haha. last year was audience AND jury award though. this year, just audience.

    archived-videos just won audience award

Thank you! I will relay this info to my sound guy - he did all the live sound, foley and score. I will also have to be more vigilant about what I want next time; this film was made on a budget of $55 which paid for the costumes, gas, and four sandwiches, so I didn't want to be too pushy about...

    archived-videos just won audience award

unfortunately, the theater speakers were shit on the presentation of this (quiet and "underwater" sounding) but here it is: CHARGE. We ended up winning the first place audience choice award for the Holland Project (local arts and music venue) 3-Minute Film Fest (despite the audio being way too...

Is it worth submitting shorts to festivals?

I'm aware of this. I was asking about multiple films for better recognition, variety and to fill a longer space that fits into fractions of an hour (for scheduling the festival)

Is it worth submitting shorts to festivals?

Has anyone ever heard of people submitting like 4 films at 3.75 mins apiece for a 15 minute segment? I want to submit four micro shorts but am not sure on the submission rules for most fests.

    LED Light Panel Questions

here's my design it's been a while since i went to school for engineering but i think this should work.

    LED Light Panel Questions

So I would ask some of the more experienced people here, is the cost-cutting worth the compromise in image/color? This seems like an EXTREMELY cheap way to get a LOT of light, and if a slight green spike is the only issue, I'll grab a few from Amazon this afternoon.

hahahaha i vote for this as the sequel (AND the prequel, when the one box was forged out of the beaks of thousands of birds)

    archived-videos mood meditations

Wow, samwagner, that was absolutely lovely to read! I would love to continue talking on a public thread or PM. Thank you for the input. Allowing the audience to create the meaning just as much as, if not more than the creator, makes total sense. This will affect the way I describe and publish...

    archived-videos mood meditations

This will be the first installment of a series (not sure how many installments we'll end up doing). The idea is to force the viewer to just sit there for once, without being completely overstimulated (which is a rare thing in today's culture). The visual effect I'm going for is in the same vein...

archived-videos God in a Box - Short film

looked nice! i didn't get a chance to watch fully because i'm at work, but i will when i get home. the letterbox was a little too thick for me, seemed to interfere with some of the compositions at times.

    First Skit

not bad, this has potential. what others have said about the audio is true. i would definitely export to 1080p so it can play in full resolution! keep making films, there were a few compositions in there that caught my eye for sure.

archived-videos Sizzle Reel of 7 films I wrote and directed last year

I would agree completely. This looks more like an amateur production anyway, so I think color grading was just the first thing that caught my eye that could* save some of the boring compositions and lackluster acting. *probably won't
