    Any tips at all?

look up "best video settings for canon 600D" and study the videos you find. Beyond that, you really just have to get out and shoot. There's no "one-size-fits-all" setting for your camera and everything is a compromise. Just go have some fun and shoot, even if there's no plot or anything. Focus...

    Any tips at all?

Make something simple and short. Then make another and another. Remember that pre-production is everything, but you have to have experience with making errors in order to know how to pre-produce. Just go out and shoot, edit, and finish a product.

a7s: can't get it back to English - please help

Are you sure you're using the second (bottom) photo as reference for your answers here? I don't see anything that resembles an "A" in my photo (other than possibly the first symbol on the third line down). Nor do I see the symbols you say you saw (for "language")

a7s: can't get it back to English - please help

Hello, I bought an A7s from Amazon (and from that, a company in the U.S.). It was all in English when I first got it. The camera told me that the card I wanted to use was not going to accept XAVC recording mode. Because of this, I re-initialized the camera to restore any settings that may be...

    What's in your filmmaking kit?

Sony A7s five batteries, two chargers three 64gb SD cards Canon 550D three batteries uses same SD cards (this is rarely used; I keep it around for sentimental purposes as it was the camera I made my first filmmaking dollar with. *tear*) Sony FE 28-70mm OSS lens Hoya Vari-ND (55mm) As I've...

How does one achieve this look?

4:3 aspect ratio, 30 fps (or 60fps) interlaced instead of progressive, usually no lighting or just a top light mounted to the camera, wide angle shots, generally a lack of color correction/grading, lack of dynamic camera movement. I would also add that reality TV shows use multiple mounted cams...

Advise on what camera to buy!

it's gonna be difficult to get all of those specs in one camera body for ~$1,000. The G7 does 4k, 1080 at 60fps. Zoom isn't related to the camera but the lens you put on it. The G7 comes with a power zoom lens with a pretty good range (14-140mm). Has an 1/8" microphone jack. No prores, not great...

Wrapped up a short a few weeks ago: It was a huge learning experience...

If I was DP on something and the director told me to slow down and get higher quality shots, but then after following his direction he told me to "work faster", I'd probably be pretty irritated. Especially because it sounds like the scheduling/lack of time wasn't the DP's fault in the first place.

Without Grace (first script w/ dialogue)

Hi guys, Earlier this year I wrote a script for a short (5-7mins) film. It is my first film with dialogue that involves more than one actor, and may be a little ambitious for my level of experience. I'm interested in everything - structure, formatting, story. Let me know what you guys think...

How did my scene come out?

The formatting is good! I just wasn't engaged by the story or descriptions of the scene. It was a little wordy and the "dialogue" felt stilted. Keep going though! I'm terrible at dialogue.
