cinematography I have a problem with aperture when I zoom with my DSLR.

Wow... I thought that my comment about the white balance was nit-picky, as I realized upon further review that there was no possible way that your test was supposed to be anything but showing the zoom thing. It's astonishing that ANY of that was intentional, as it looks worse than a 2009-era...

    archived-videos Requiem - new short

Thanks for the feedback! The story is definitely a little hard to follow. We wanted to make the story more interesting than "You killed my sister, so I'm going to kill you", and so added the "twist" aspect - that the husband was a victim defending himself, not a perpetrator. It was hard to find...

    archived-videos Requiem - new short

Experimenting with dialogue for the first time! It wasn't the best, but wasn't the worst. The recording for the dialogue is god awful, peaking nonstop. I'm pretty bummed about that. However, my job on-set was cinematographer so I think I accomplished what I wanted to. I helped write it, shot all...

cinematography I have a problem with aperture when I zoom with my DSLR.

Dude yeah don't do it. Use a stabilizer and physically move toward your subject. This isn't the 70s anymore, zooms look cheesy. Also your white balance is so off it's completely distracting.

cinematography Black background, can see foreground

Keep the subject (the thing you want to be lit up) far from the background. Put your lights as close to your subject as the framing will allow, as bright as possible so they're extremely bright in comparison to the background. I mean BRIGHT. You're going for contrast here, so even though your...

archived-videos Would appreciate your feedback: Rough Cut

Looked good! The color could definitely be pushed further. A wider variety of wide, medium and tight shots would have helped it be more dynamic. I found myself getting bored about halfway through. Interesting take on the split screen thing, that was a success I think.

    Best cheap stabiliser

this should work I owned a flycam system just like this (albeit bigger with a vest) and it worked wonders...as long as you practice with it a LOT before going out on an actual shoot (the hardest part is keeping the horizon level as you make turns and lateral movements). Now I use a Ronin :D

    editing Slow Motion

I believe your 600D has a 720/60p option...it's not great but if you keep the camera close to your subject you shouldn't notice the difference in resolution too much. Other than that, you can use frame blending in your NLE or the Twixtor plug-in for PP, FCPX, AE, etc. Try not to move the camera...

editing HELP. Memory Space Problem inside FCPX

you need to delete all of the temporary render files from the FCP application folder. also, set your scratch disks to write to an external hard drive instead of your internal one.

cinematography being flown to LA for a music video: packing?

haha, yeah this whole thing is just to impress you guys. is it working??? so this prompts me to ask, where are the links to the high-budget productions you've worked on? maybe i should have avoided the wrath of davidevans by saying i'm taking a wagon to oklahoma for an infomercial instead...

cinematography being flown to LA for a music video: packing?

Hey guys, So I've been offered a music video deal which requires me to fly to LA (expenses paid) for a one-day shoot. I will be bringing my camera w/ lenses, batteries, etc in a backpack that will be carry-on. Ideally, I would bring a monopod, tripod and my Ronin-M, but I know that stuff will...

    Freelance jobs

I am by no means any "better" than you. I just realized how much time and effort goes into each project. If you're truly passionate about this, you're trying your hardest to make the best product possible. And that deserves big bucks (relatively)! Don't make my mistake of charging too little...

    Freelance jobs

A one-day shoot w/ editing is anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500 for me. It would be a corporate interview/b-roll situation on the lower end and a music video at the high end. I tried doing hourly but I find it's better as a startup freelancer to first give them flat-rate prices and then go from...

a7s: can't get it back to English - please help

Shouted to SonyElectronics, hoping they'll have an answer for me. I am not sure on specifics, but I think the seller may have imported a Japanese version, figured out how to flash an English firmware onto the camera, and sold it as the US version. Then I initialized it and the firmware went out...
