    On-Camera Monitors

There are many options for this sort of thing. On a set, its not unusual to run a video feed out of the camera to a directors monitor. If your looking for something for yourself, again there are a ton of option. I use a 6 inch monitor, made by a company called SmallHD. They range in price for...

    Alien eyes

This is a great forum. Understand you don't have a proper program for creating such an effect on your system. I'm sure someone around here does. You could try soliciting the assistance of one of the members. Then send them the clip, with screen shots of the actor who wore the contacts, and have...

cinematography Can't get this aperture right.

Ummm......he says he has an 18-55. Why not shoot wider? 24mm? 18mm? Put the camera as far back in the space as you can, and go as wide as you need to to get the whole shot. If he has enough space to shoot it at 50mm, surely there's plenty to shoot it at 18, 20, or 24.

editing Flashing ambulance lights in POST

Maybe keyframe some sort of round mask, on and off,, and use a color correction so that its more intense in the center and less on the outer edges. Use a heavy feather. Adjust the mask, so you get the more intense spot in a place that makes sense for the scene. Maybe duplicate the footage, and...

Editing in lower quality, exporting in full HD

In addition to what Zensteve has said, have you tried lowering the playback quality, while in Premier? Set it to 1/2 or 1/4 resolution. Might speed up your playback. If that doesn't work, you can always creat proxie files to edit, them reconnect the original high quality footage. I've been...

Why sell the lens you have? Save and get some others.

The cinematography on Act of Valor (2012)

I saw an interview with some of the guys who worked on this movie. Shane Hirlbut (DP on thism film ) has been a champion of using DSLR's since they first started shooting video. They said when they started filming this movie, video DSLR's were so new, they didn't have the support equipment they...

    Compatibility?

The Manfrotto 190XPROB is a tripod made for still photography. You'll want to find a tripod with a 75mm or 100mm bowl (if you are looking for legs only). Otherwise you'll want to search out "fluid head tripod" or "video tripod head" If you look at this head...

    BlackMagic announces new camera

I've also preordered the BMPCC. And just received a Panasonic 12-35 f2.8 m4/3 lens to start it off with. Ordered m4/3 to Canon FD adapter to use some old fd lens I have as well. Finding something for the wide end is the biggest challenge. I've read so much info about this camera, from so many...

    POV videos

I've seen a couple threads over the last little bit, talking about projects shot entirely in first person POV. Came across these videos, and thought I'd post them. I thought they were interesting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=http://QYm-dT24iRY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rgox84KE7iY

cinematography How should I go for these kind of shots?

I'm wondering if lens selection could help with this? Wondering if you tried different focal lengths, moving the camera closer or further away from the subject, while still keeping the same framing Of the subject, will change how much or little of the background you see. It may change how the...

    editing Before VFX

I'm not 100 percent on this, but I remember reading that the Hollywood visual effects houses are protesting the amount of budget that is set aside for VFX. And that the effects house that did Life of Pi has recently declared bankruptcy. They are also protesting that vfx house dont receive any...

Whats happen to The Walking Dead?

I didn't find the pay off particularly special. I thought the season as a whole was too slow and boring, and I hoped every week they would finally leave the farm. I only started watching season 3, because of the tease at the end of season 2, The beginning of season 3 made no sense.

Whats happen to The Walking Dead?

Since this is an area where we can talked about anything, I figured I'd see what everyone thinks. I loved season 1 of The Walking Dead. Thought each episode was intriguing. One of the appeals of the show, at least for me, was that I loved the practical special effects (zombie makeup), and I...

    Wes Anderson Movies

Just to chime in, I've never liked anything of his I've seen, and actively avoid his movies. I have a lot of friends who love his movies. I just can't find the appeal in them myself.

    Magic Lantern

Did you get the correct version for the 60D? Sucks you're having issues.. I love ML, and have loaded it onto all my SD cards. One other thought, what size SD card are you using? I remember reading that it would work on a 64gig card, but it couldn't be loaded the first time from a 64gig card.

    Magic Lantern

I don't remember how I did it. But there is some sort of feature, that for some reason went and tested everything on my camera (60D). To get it to stop, I had to simply turn off the camera and turn back on. I was going through the ML menus, messing with the things I don't normally mess with...

editing Is frame blending the right choice for this shot?

How about driving and filming at normal speed. Drive 3 times as long as you need for the shot. Then take into after effects, create a mask to cut out the windows. So you have the driver, at real time speed. Then duplicate the footage and reverse the mask, so that you get only whats outside the...

editing Editing a strobe light scene

Is there a specific reason you need strobe light in the scene, a specific effect or look? If you were to try and do it in post, I might try experimenting with raising the shutter speed of your camera, to give that strobing effect. Then you could try and add the light effect to match. Raising...
