    Canon 60D - recording length

I learned while recording a wedding why most wedding montages these days are just that - montages. It's because DSLR's have that 12min limit so they only have the ability to capture moments as opposed to segments if you could get that. My question is why DSLR's won't continue the video as a...

archived-videos Battle Hero Absolute (Japanese Tokusatsu Inspired Series)

Thanks for checking us out, GPS! And I also hope you get around to watching a few of the others episodes as well. Episode 10 has probably gotten the most positive response since we started doing the series. Some have said that it's a good alternative to what's going in Power Rangers/Super...

What Do You Wish Was Invented?

I want a program that lets you eliminate certain sounds from an audio track (IE. random car horns, birds, wind) while maintaining the integrity of the dialogue and wanted sounds. That would save a whole lot of ADR time. That or something that keeps the planet/sun from moving so that the...

    I'm living the dream!

Ain't nothing wrong with deck to deck editing. Hell, my brother edited his high school project (silent film) back in 2000 using deck to deck and connected a CD player that had the tracks that he wanted to use to the audio jacks and just pressed next when the scenes came up. Oh were the awesome...

    Realism in script writing

The best part about story and film is that you can make whatever you want and make it believable. You create a reality within a fake reality. Whatever happens on screen, it is up to the actors and director to believe that what you see can actually happen within that world. Take time travel...

archived-videos Hardest music vid shoot of my life as DP. Single take, stunts, 100 extras. Thoughts?

That looked really easy and fun hahaha. For the atmosphere and tone of the video, I don't think there was anymore that you could've done other than to remember the cues and try to get everything as much as possible.

archived-videos Battle Hero Absolute (Japanese Tokusatsu Inspired Series)

Sorry for the late post. I probably should have mentioned that Battle Hero Absolute is somewhat of an offshoot of another series of ours known as Test Fight 5 (2009). The Test Fight series is basically a parody of test fights where people in the indy action scene just made fight scenes with no...

I don't get this angle a lot of directors use.

We usually use those shots to convey that the character is looking off into the distance. If anything, they couldn't get in front of the actors because of the environment. Or the actors are peering over a boat or railing.

How do I direct actor's to this in certain shots?

For the walking scene, if head turns aren't totally specific to certain words, give them a general of where you want them to turn their heads. Just make sure that it's consistent and that they remember to turn their head. Usually, we have our actors run through the lines and whatever they feel...

Download a new royalty free music track every day in October

Noticed that you have all 31 days of October Special covered and I just want to say thank you for providing your tracks. I actually listened to all the tracks with action/fight sequences in mind and drama scenes as opposed to horror. Still falls under the despair kind of mood but works nonetheless.

Download a new royalty free music track every day in October

Any royalty free music is good music. Thank you for taking the time to make and offer your tracks to us. It's not often that you see this happen. A few of the tracks can definitely be used outside of a Halloween too! And that's a huge bonus! Thanks!

archived-videos Battle Hero Absolute (Japanese Tokusatsu Inspired Series)

Firstly, if you don't know what Japanese Tokusatsu is, it's basically the genre where Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers originated from - a bunch of people in spandex. Battle Hero Absolute is more or less inspired by Kamen Rider where, unlike Power Rangers, the hero is usually a single man. The...

    editing Need subtitle help

As much as I would prefer making SRT files in one program and then simply importing into Premiere or FCP, it's unfortunate that you can't. That'd save sooo much time. I forget what it was called, but there are ways to use an mpeg converter where you can directly convert the SRT/SSA file along...

Is micro-budget DSLR gear really good enough to make a real movie out of?

It's all a matter of what YOU do with the equipment and not what the equipment can do for you.

    GUNS

Obvious don't... don't use real guns. I can only speak from experience when using blowback airsoft guns, but you should always practice gun safety and treat every firearm as if it were loaded. Never place your finger on the trigger if you don't intend to shoot anyone with it. As for pointing...

cinematography Must have lenses for DSLR!?

I personally use a Sigma f1.8 24mm and 50mm but would like something in the middle. I have also used the Samyang's and the 85mm is a really lovely lens. Sometimes the 24mm will feel too far while the 50mm will feel a bit too close so having something in the middle ala 35mm is good too. For now...

    Prop guns

You can always get some rather cheap battery powered BB guns and spray them. Yes, its illegal to spray them, but it's better than nothing. Albeit they are made to be ridiculous oversized so as to not confuse them for a real firearm. But if you want to go with realistic, airsoft guns are the...

    I F$%#ing HATE noises !!!!!!

Heh, where I live we practically live under a flight path. At my cousin's old college campus, they had a bell tower that would literally go off every 30min. Maybe even sooner. Add that to planes, helicopter, people, and wind, you have the most perfect audio storm =].
