How to do a long, destructive, follow shot?

Omg, thank you for posting this. Ever since I saw this thread I wanted to this post up but I couldn't remember the name of the short since I first saw it 3 years ago on my old YT account (now banned booo.....). But anyways... if you want to make things easier, you can always use walls and...

Question about shooting in the sun with reflectors.

To be quite honest, the average audience won't give a fuck about overexposure unless it's a hindrance and annoying. It's only us film heads that give a crap. And even then, a little overexposure isn't going to kill anyone. But that Skyfall scene wasn't even all that bad. If you're only allowed a...

Shooting bores my actors. How do I lighten up the atmopshere?

Only bring in people that you know you're going to use in an allotted amount of time. Don't have them come in and wait. Have them come in for when you feel that you'll be ready for them to shoot. But if you must have them come in, have them being an assistant or grip. I've never met any actor...

Do you need to act to direct?

it's not a necessity, but it surely helps. As Rok said, it's helps you understand the mindset of an actor and makes it easier to communicate your message. From experience, my cousin had always made films before he got into choosing theatre as a major. A lot of the theatre students that we have...

cinematography Getting rid of lens flare.

If you want to be cheap. just you your hand to cut off the light from the lens. But as said, you'd really want to be shooting away from the source.

cinematography How is this establishing shot?

If you wanted to get the city then I don't think that's a great establishing shot. In fact, it's quite horrible for a city shot. For a bridge, it's decent because that's in the foreground. You would have benefited using a tripod and putting less focus on the bridge and more on the town. But it's...

Is my director going to ruin his movie?

We usually use multicams just to get more coverage in less takes. If we know that a portion of the dialogue is good on one side then we'll just continue with the other. But, because we're low budget, we go one cam. And if you're good enough, you'll think ahead of time in editing and know where...

archived-videos fast pace action trailer vs drama driven trailer, which one is better?

I would have gone with the drama version as that's more representative of the story but I would have cut it down to half. You ended up making the trailer itself a short so there's almost no need to watch the full version.

    3D scenes in 2D movies

I think it would be best if you word is as CGI as opposed to 3D.

editing What do you think about using color correct

What emotion were you trying to elicit with the green coloring? I probably would've gone with a colder look like blue.

    3D scenes in 2D movies

Fun fact... a lot 3D movies that have been out in recent years are actually converted into 3D. Bay may have said that Transformers was shot all in 3D but I have a friend that actually works with the studio that does the conversion.

    editing Sound edit input?

I actually found nothing wrong with either scene. The only thing wrong was the amount of blood that came out of the guys mouth. Make is smaller and darken the color.

What can I do to improve my fight scenes?

I think the best thing for you is to be able to rely on yourself. All that you have said I have done by myself before. Believe that you can do it. Working the camera while dollying (sometimes focus pulling) and monitoring the audio is the fun stuff. Adding in cranes is where it gets hard xD...

What can I do to improve my fight scenes?

I feel like you really want to go big with very little. There's absolutely no problem with it, but you'll easily notice that this "dream" is bigger and harder than what you may have imagined/anticipated. Once you realize that, then every little mistake will become a lesson. I'm sure many of us...

What can I do to improve my fight scenes?

I don't know how much shoestring is to you but we usually find ourselves doing action in our own homes, backgrounds, schools, parks, etc. Easily public places where permit isn't all that much of a requirement. Guerilla style filmmaking. Take our latest short for example...

What can I do to improve my fight scenes?

That's the thing, though. Of course, rules are meant to be broken, but you have to be able to understand it first in order to properly break them. While in Jackie movies, as well as other action movies, the 180 has been broken, but what made those breaks work was because we had other objects in...

What can I do to improve my fight scenes?

I have to be quite honest with you. That was one of the most horrible action scenes that I have ever seen. PLEASE do not believe the budget makes everything. Because it doesn't. All you really need is to find ONE person that knows how to do stunts and properly teach it to inexperienced actors...
