    Celtx, Sophocles, or Movie Magic?

Celtix FTW I guess. Haven't had any problems so far. And the fact I can save it automatically on PDF is great. Especially when I want to compare different drafts of the script. Oh yeah, and free is good in any language. Especially in the micro budget film world.

    I hate zombie movies.

Well, Night of the Living Dead was good, as was the original Dawn of the Dead. Classics in my opinion. Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland were just pure, corny fun and are never meant to be more than that. Everything else, though, seems to be just a rehash of Romero's zombie movies and just...

    Short Film Casting

I think every character I've written for was either me, part of me, or in some way how I interpreted myself. Yet I would never play such a character. But if you feel no one could do that character justice but yourself, then go for it. Aint no rule in this game.

sound Who is your favorite film composer?

In no particular order: Jerry Goldsmith. Love his scores for Alien, 13th Warrior, and The Mummy. John Williams. Star Wars, Raiders, Jaws James Newton Howard. Signs, I am Legend, Hidalgo, Unbreakable. Very underrated. James Horner. Aliens, ST 2, Titanic. Brad Fiedel. Got to love the scores...

    Music & Scripts

If I had to use popular music in my film, I would rather find a similar sounding local/unsigned band or hope/pray my film gets picked up by a distributor and let it slip to them what song you want playing in "scene x".

    Music & Scripts

Music rarely has an influence on my storytelling anyway. In fact when I look at one of my scripts I often don't imagine a soundtrack. And if there is music (like "JOHN turns on the radio") usually I don't bother picking a song simply for copyright reasons and the fact that the royalties for the...

    Script Finished - Now What?

You're about where I was only a couple of months ago. I've recently written and completed my first draft of a screenplay, and now I'm on my third draft. Just try and get some feedback from others and build on it. Even constructive criticism can go a long way in your process. BTW, a pitch is...

    Flashbacks in screenplays

Usually when I write a flashback I include it in the heading of the new scene, unless it's something small, then I use an insert cut.

    story Story inside story?

Is it a flashback? Dream sequence? Character fantasy? If so, you need to include that in the heading. In fact, anytime the action moves to a different location you need scene headings. As for the voice over it's, well, a voice over. Dialogue will be represented as such too.

    Script Help C0-writer

With a mix of Riddick in there. But still, maybe all he needs is a second opinion to get the wheels rolling.

What standard of short films do you need to enter Film School?

The way I see it is that you just make a short film. Demonstrate your passion and interest through the short film. I would think they wouldn't expect your film to look like Spielberg's or anything. BTW, I'm in the same boat as you. Have to make a five minute short and/or a 30+ page screenplay...

    Naming your short film

"Impeccable Timing" "A Couple of Thieves" "Hot Merchandise" "Beaten" I'm usually pretty good about coming up with titles for my own work. Hopefully mine's helped you out with yours, though. Good luck.

    A few screenwriting questions...

If you do, you may want to get it copyrighted and/or registered with the (in your case) WGA-E before you unveil it before the public. If you really want feedback/ proofreading bring it to a trusted English teacher or a close friend or family member who's good with grammar. Not at all. A high...

making a film while on psychedelics??

I've often thought about writing a screenplay after smoking some weed, or something, but I've opted against it when I found out my ideas suck when I'm high/ drunk. However, one thing I've thought about doing was instrumenting a sleep deprivation experiment where I'd stay awake for two or three...

character Advice on psychopathic character story (in development)

What I like about deranged psychopaths (and boy do I love writing for them) is the fact that you can make them as twisted as you want and that there's virtually no limits to their sadism. With my screenplay, "Stranger", the main antagonist is very psychotic but what intrigued me about his...

character Advice on psychopathic character story (in development)

Go watch "Falling Down" by Joel Schumacher. Perhaps the best movie I've seen where a psychopath can really gain hold of the audiences' sympathy.

Ever superstitious on your film project?

The only thing with 13 that I can think of is if it takes 13 takes for one shot, move on to the next one.

    Other Writing

I started writing short stories and novels (mostly fan fiction) first before I started on screenplays. I only started writing screenplays a year and a half ago. But as to what's easier, it depends on your preference of writing. Writing novels/ short stories, I found it easier to get into the...

Investors/Producers for Feature Film "Avenger of Blood"

The only original superhero movie that wasn't based on previous source material that did well (that I can think of) was Unbreakable. Bit even then, Shyamalon was riding on the curtails of The Sixth Sense. For the most part, I agree with directorik. But it is possible to market action movies...
