    Directing a documentary

I just finished my documentary a few months ago, and I must agree with what everyone here is saying. And, I know it's a noobie thing but it's very important, make sure your audio is plugged in right. Yeah, I accidentally plugged it into the "audio out" plug and the result was virtually no...

    IS THIS REALISTIC

Dude, I doubt if even Robert Rodriguez could do that, and he's pretty well known for fast shooting schedules. I personally think that's far too unrealistic for anyone to do. Even with 76 cameras going it would be downright impossible.

    NARRATOR: carrot or stick?

The only time I would use narration would be for film noir type films, one of which I'm working on now as a short. But even then I'm thinking about removing it. So, no, I'm not too big a fan of them. Though blending it into a comedy for satirical purposes might work.

archived-videos The End of the World - Short Film

Not bad. Really had a Kevin Smith type vibe to it. Though, I would've cut to the different characters when they spoke. There was one scene where there was a close up on Onsey (the third guy) just before they did meth (classic BTW) where it was just him on screen doing reactionary shots and...

    Rewriting

When I rewrite things, I usually just tweak things on the first draft. Unless I hate the first draft so much that I have to do a complete overhaul.

    action My First Action Sequence

Haha, I stand corrected. It's all good though. Most of the time though, when I use the word HAMMER in a gun reference, it's mostly aimed towards revolvers and pistols. I use the word BOLT for assault rifles and other rifles. Though I've never written much for shotguns. Usually just say HE'S...

    action My First Action Sequence

Not bad, but I'd break up the direction in the EXT. FARM HOUSE - EVENING scene just to make it more readable. Try to limit yourself to three or four lines when it comes to direction. Makes for a better read and you won't find people glancing over it as they read through. It is imperative that...

A problem of writing what you see

I think every film has scenes written in the script, but didn't make the cut. The closest exception that I've seen (in my limited knowledge of reading scripts) would be The Dark Knight, but even that had a few scenes and lines that were cut. There's many reasons why film makers cut scenes...

Greetings from your neighbor in New Hampshire. Merry Christmas by the way.

    University Film Club

Hahaha, welcome to the world of film making. Getting everyone to work as synchronous as a Swiss watch is next to impossible. The best thing to do is get a script going. Once a concept is written in black and white you then have something to build off. From what I'm seeing based on what you're...

    AVATAR -no spoilers (yet)-

It's not, at least from what I've seen. Looks just like updated 3D in the same way other VFX films have more updated effects compared to the ones in the previous years. Nothing new, just updated and improved. I, personally, didn't see anything revolutionary about it. Just another excuse for...

    AVATAR -no spoilers (yet)-

It was good, but not phenomenal in my opinion. Personally, I'm never really wowed by VFX anymore. I'm more into the story aspect of films, not the technical. And this one had a rather basic storyline. It wasn't bad, but not the best film I've seen this year. That one goes to Star Trek, for...

    Finished my feature

Heh, I agree. I'm currently doing my fourth rewrite of my feature length screenplay. And at the end of each draft I think it's perfect until a couple of months later I look back at it and decide it needs work. Perfection is nonexistent in the world of art.

^^ That's just my way of going about it.

    cinematography The Cheapest Dolly Ever

To the OP, I'm just going to stick with Robert Rodriguez's method of using a wheelchair. Particularly a stolen wheelchair from a nearby hospital. Not that I'm glorifying theft, but that's just me.

sound Recommendations for a boom pole?

I've used a simple mic stand. You know, the kind you can get at Guitar Center for $30 that bands use for live shows. It works alright, but it's only about 6 feet long, and we were very restricted for our shots, and could only have a few wide shots. If you plan on doing a lot of close ups, it...

Noob with Short outline needs advice

Um, this may be just me, but I would strongly recommend you focus on the story first before you get any travel arrangements. That said, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the first couple scenes of drunken bliss to the ending with the Rapture and/or nuclear holocaust. You say you go to...

sound Where can I obtain suspenseful music for free?

I've found the cheapest, most reliable way to obtain original music for film scores. Write and record it yourself. You can get a hold of music recording software relatively easily, and cheap, and create your own soundtrack. Try the Acid music software at Best Buy. Only goes for about $60 and...

Well rollercoasters tend to do that. lol. Now that you mention it's for a client, I can see why you took that angle. Keep the clients happy.
