    archived-videos "Smoke Out!"

"Smoke Out!" is a short documentary about the counter culture of cigarette smokers. It's my first serious attempt at film making. A project I did with a few people from my community college I go to. Enjoy and let me know what you all think! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RujqafMnf8...

Do You Agree With These Poll Results? - The Toughest Genre To Produuce

I agree with comedy. Because, just like horror, your film relies on engaging the audience more emotionally than say an action film. And not everyone has the same sense of humor as the writer and/or director. As far as production goes though, I'd say that drama and comedy would be the easiest...

Pretty much any James Bond film.

Prospective. But there's a high chance I'll be attending Keene in the fall. You could try Dartmouth. There's a small cinema studies program there, but the overall population of the school seems like the type that enjoy good indie films.

I'm sure the cinema departments at Keene State and Fitchburg State would definitely enjoy a show.

    New to video editing

I've never worked with sony vegas pro, but I've worked on others. The only way to do it (that I'm aware of. I'm a noob to the editing world as well) is to view and upload all your footage and pick all the shots you like, and edit it together to make it flow right. Just pick the ones that best...

    Who directs a documentary?

IDK. I've directed a documentary before, but I was also the editor so I'm no real help. In my opinion, the director should at least have a vision of where the doc should be going, and what tone it should have. Seems like the director you had had no real idea of where it was going and just...

    story Romance/Love-story advice pleases?

And give the female character more depth. In addition to Buddy's response, make her the type that's emotionally dependent on the loser/asshole strait dude. Have her slip into darkness before she realizes how good her friend is for her.

    action action

Try and use a small amount of dialogue like banter or panicked one liners from the hapless people getting shot at. You could also cut to a small scene with some of the mooks trying to figure out what to do. It depends on the tone. If you want it dark, then try and refrain from dialogue. If...

I am looking for a scriptwriter

Why don't you try for a period piece? Maybe make it set during pre Civil War with, say, a white guy from a prominent family in the South (pick a state) and a black slave woman. Or, set it in post WW2 Germany between a Jewish girl and an ex German (not Nazi) soldier, but has family ties with...

    story Romance/Love-story advice pleases?

You could play it off as a sort of unrequited love. Say Jim and Kelly are life long friends, but Jim has had a crush on Kelly for a long time and won't act on it out of fear it will ruin their friendship. Kelly, oblivious to Jim's feelings, gets real serious with a guy named Ted. This prompts...

    Greeting from New Hampshire

Well if you got any ideas on what you want to do just pm me. I got a few short scripts that would cost next to nothing to make, and some low level equipment: a consumer level camera and a microphone. You don't need that many people. I shot "Smoke Out!" with pretty much a two man crew and an...

    Greeting from New Hampshire

I did a short documentary last fall for my class called "Smoke Out!". Shot it pretty much in the Claremont area. And I did help as a PA on an independent feature, called "the CLEAR" shot down in Milford, and I'm waiting to hear back from a guy who's shooting a movie in Franklin and looking for...

    Write or Read?

I'd rather write than look for a screenplay. I don't know why. I guess I just see my own vision better than I see others. Not to say I don't recognize other people's screenwriting abilities, just I'd rather tell my own stories. I trust my own vision.

Also Joseph Campbell's "Hero with a Thousand Faces" is an excellent guide to go by. And check this out. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ptitleh1ltpj3ph282?from=Main.TheHerosJourney Should help you in structuring a character.

    Juno/Indiewood

I think out of all of those, the only one that stood out as noteworthy (that I've seen) is Brick. I found that to be much truer to Indie roots than Adventureland, Superbad, Juno, and some others. I know they claim to be "indie" but you just can't have that much star attachment to it with what...
