editing Cheap(er) alternatives to Premiere Pro

Premiere Elements 10 should be able to had for about $40-$50, Premiere Elements 11 for $75. I'd spend a few extra bucks and get PE11. I'm currently using Premiere Elements 10, and it works fine for simple work. There's not much of a difference content wise, but the layout has been revamped...

    Looking for opinions ASAP

I'd take a D5100 over the D3200(D3200 doesn't have a flip out screen). I personally own the D5100, love it for photography and I really haven't done any serious video or film work with it yet. I had an XTi, have used my friend's XS, and played with t2i's and t3i's at the store before, and I...

    Trying to Choose...

I can't really give any input on the sensor size and how it will actually affect anything. But, I can give a little input on the audio. External. The best way to capture sound is by getting the mic off the camera, and onto a boom going to it's own recorder.

    Trying to Choose...

I'd go with the NX5U, and put the $2k you'd be saving towards quality audio equipment. The NX5U will get the job done for a short or low budget feature. Audio is very very important to bringing everything together when you're making a short or low budget feature.

    My first telephoto lens

I had a Tamron 70-300 for my Sony. Sold it with the camera. Picked up another for my Nikon. For the price, I think it's great. As long as you don't go past like 290mm, you shouldn't lose any sharpness.

What do I need to look for in a dolly and a track?

Check out this video. They have lots of other great DIY stuff too. I definitely plan on making some of their stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fR_-R2bS9ag

    Using a digital Audio Recorder?

I'd stay away from any Go Pro for your sole camera. They're awesome for putting them where you can't put a normal camera. But, for just over $200 for the camera I'd look at the Canon HF R300.

    Canon DSLR question.

I believe they have the same senor, so the video quality would be the same. The 60D has the flip out screen, and the 7D doesn't. I don't see why you'd wanna give that up. Unless you plan on shooting in the rain the remainder of the shoots, I wouldn't switch.

    editing Turning Light to Night?

I've read in a few places that with certain effects applied and three way color correction, you can make a lit scene seem like it's dark. But, not one of those sources gave even a rough idea of how to do it. If anyone can give me the gist of doing this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Seeing as...

    Olympus E-PM1

I'm gonna call complete BS on the mic being good. Please put up a clip of something recorded with it. Your idea of good is really most likely mediocre at best. If it some how does decent, then I'll retract this statement.

I just added the mid length synopsis. That's something I'd like to do, if I can find time. Between school and work, I have only an hour or two of free time most days. I'd also like to recreate the project image when I get the time. Thanks for the insight.

Editing and Color Correction machine - buy or build?

Newer doesn't mean better. It's more about the actual series of card i.e. Nvidia: 5xx, 4xx, 6xx Radeon 6xxx, 7xxx. The older GTX480 was top of the line 2 or 3 years ago, and it's still a great card that's better than the 560 Ti. For example, the Radeon 6850 is better than the Radeon 7770...

Editing and Color Correction machine - buy or build?

The video card will be what determines how many/big the monitor(s) can be. That card should be enough to run both monitors smoothly. My GTX 480(slightly better than the 560 Ti) and i5-3570k almost instantly renders and has smooth playback in Premiere Elements 10. That's with a single 20"...

    Budget Shotgun

I think I'm going to go with the Rode VideoMic. I heard a sound test with the VideoMic into the H1, and it sounded great to me. Plus, I like that it's mountable on the dslr. That will come in handy for me when I'm out at the motocross track. B&H has a deal on the VideoMic with a boom and...

    Budget Shotgun

Thanks for the abundance of information. My first short is going to be only indoors, but I know some in the future will be outside. Almost everything I've read says that hypercardioid mics tend to pic up too much background noise outside. Which is why I was trying to stay away from one. I'm...
