    Why aren't new movies better?

There's a lot that can be said, and too many generalizations that have been said. What pisses me off about most Hollywood "product" is the assumption that the audience is an infantilzed slobbering collection of imbeciles, and they wouldn't understand anything above a fourth grade level. And...

What do you guys think of this Cam!!!!!

I'd get a GH2 instead, in a heartbeat. Whatever camera you are interested in, search vimeo for footage from the camera.

Psychological horror film "8" is needing your help!

Dude! A year of preproduction on a short? You need to make that a feature, something you can sell. Red alert, rewrite... PS You've got 8 different "levels of consciousness" to explore. This should not be impossible to expand to 90 minutes.

You put the actors all the way at the end of the credits... What was with that? Pretty good.

    archived-videos Strangers: Short Film

Several things-- 1. Started off as real found footage type documentary. But, the second scene you add a music track. Not just that, the music is drowning out the voices. Lose the music, if you want to present it as documentary footage. 2. Special effects didn't work well. Better to leave...

    Film noir - any tips

You can hang a venetian blind on a stand to get the shadows where you want. Use a focusing spotlight/fresnel if possible. Also there's the slash of light across the actress' eyes trick, when we first see her. You can have pronounced shadows of things that turn out to be benign other things.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Last movie I saw: I Am Number (Tw...) Four 4 / 10 (ironic?) This is what Hollywood loves to shove out into the world. Pretty people battling special effects. My daughter dragged me to this movie, and I wasn't aware that the genius of Michael Bay was behind it. It was that or yet another...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Well this thread's got some action... "The Keep I don't care. I think it's awesome! 8/10 " Hmmm. If you truly thought it was "awesome!" you wouldn't have given it 8 stars.

Experienced Directors. Your first films. They sucked, right?

My first film got aborted because of a lack of participation by the lead actress (a beautiful petite blonde whom I was secretly in love with, and who worked at the video store I went into every other night). But anyways... It was the 80s. And I had an experimental phase. So, this one butch...

    Story from a novel?

"A more detailed answer would be appreciated. " That's why lawyers exist. Short answer... Is it in the public domain? No? Then no. Write your own story.

    Clothing brands copyrighted?

I would lean more toward this response: "Actually, no. It's still copyright infringement if the logos are visible/recognizable at all. You can say the name, but you can't show it. Same with cars, don't show the logo, and if it gets in the shot, blur it out. " However, blurring it out is...

IMMIGRATION TANGO: New Feature Limited Theatrical Release

Martin, Heads up -- that trailer won't play on my computer. So, I'm not alone with that condition. There should be multiple formats available. Put the Youtube link up on your site, etc. (For the peanut gallery: I'm not going to debate this. Move along.)

    Copyright or WGA?

The WGA throws your script in the shredder after 5 years, so why waste money? The Copyright Office is what counts.

    archived-videos Does this Suck

Short answer: No. But then I've never donated to any of these things. So don't let that deter you... too much. Your sequence was boring and static. You never changed camera angle. It looked crappy, the compression, the quality of camera. If they're going to be saying the same line, have...

archived-videos WASTED LIFE - First Short Film

It actually had something to say, and a dramatic framework for saying it. That puts it ahead of 90% of the others. One thing could make it stronger if it was redone. Make the opening stronger, less of a cliche (man wakes up for work). That opening has been done so many times it's best to...

    archived-videos House of White Spiders

Apparently you're already done. Anyway: 1. Trailer way too long, tells 2 or 3 stories instead of one. 2. Sound of dialogue is thin. Should thicken it up in post. 3. If it's a horror, sell it as horror. The current trailer starts off like an indie artist drama. 4. ... Do you have the rights...
