    archived-videos Short VFX Action Sequence

What I think... There are 8 million of these and none of them have any story whatsoever. So they're essentially pointless.

    cinematography Filming at Night/Dark

Two more things... NeatVideo is a software that smooths out noise. The free type is found with Virtualdub, but it doesn't do as good a job. Applying multiple instances with different settings of noise reduction seemed to help somewhat. The color of the light is critical. If you are shooting...

What was the last film you actually paid to see in theater and enjoyed?

HANNA was pretty cool. The Bourne cutie never got stupid like a lot of these other films. Thinking back, I also enjoyed the first two UNDERWORLD films when they released.

    lens junkie

I just received an anamorphic adapter for a 35mm movie projector. I still have no way to mount it to the lens, but I'm working on it.

    Writing low budget action scenes.

Dude, there's so many variables that it's like asking: How do I make a low-budget sci fi scene? Personally, unless you're doing something I haven't seen before you're wasting your time with bullets and explosions. Every 15 year old kid on youtube is playing with bullets and explosions. Snore...

    WORKING WITH SAG!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had an article about this on my blog for a couple years. It's been one of the most popular: The TRUTH about the SAG Ultra Low Budget Agreement Your experience seems to confirm what the author is saying.

What was the last film you actually paid to see in theater and enjoyed?

Black Swan ... Avatar (mostly) ... can't remember back beyond that ... I will be taking a chance on Hanna tomorrow, but I think I figured out the third act just from the trailer, which irks me. May also see Soul Surfer, as my daughter is sure to want to see that one.

Help! Trying to decide on a 16mm or Super 8mm camera!

"hmmm... I thought a great screenplay wins the oscar..." So, you can point me to the 8mm film that won for best screenplay? You thought wrong.

    archived-videos VIPER (A Hitchcockian Thriller)

Sorry dude. Hitchcock was the master of visual storytelling. This was all voice over exposition. Everything was audio. Result -- I started reading other forum posts just listening and waiting for something to happen. The visual data was sort of unnecessary, superfluous. It works better...

I'll just say -- be nice to the kitty. If you want to have a good life, you probably want to delete that first post. Just sayin.

    Short films over 10 minutes

A good movie leaves the audience wishing there was even more. A bad movie makes the audience wish there was less, a lot less, zero perhaps and they may even want to hurt you.

lighting anybody tried the external LED lights for DSLRs?

The Loews near me has a bunch of new LED bulbs. Still pricey. I checked the color temp and they were all 3000k. I'm thinking daylight balanced would be more useful. Maybe I'll try mixing one of the 3000k types with a tungsten (3200k) and see if it's noticeable. I want to build a light...

    Short films over 10 minutes

One size does not fit all. Does the story warrant it? The festival in my town plays lengths up to 30 minutes, I believe. A lot of them go over 10 minutes, and often they drag. Some of the six minute ones seem like an eternity. That said, they also started a one minute category -- and I...

archived-videos The Sky Turned Red - Trailer for my upcoming short doc.

Um, nothing happened. And the sky didn't turn red. You're using an anamorphic adapter? It looks too wide. A 2x adapter on a 16x9 sensor gives 3.55:1 ratio. The sides should be cropped, in my opinion anyway.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Middle Men (7/10) trailer I don't know, it just never connected. Perhaps the lead character isn't meant to connect, and instead was to be kept at a distance and studied. Luke Wilson plays the guy who created the porn industry online by separating the content providers from the customers...
