Rode NTG-1 Kit: A good deal?

Very true, I wouldn't really know where to begin with it. I do understand a little bit about audio, but it's very, very little. :P I think I'll go with the NTG-2 kit, seems to be a pretty good deal. Rode mics seem to have a lot more positive reviews/feedback than other ones so I feel pretty...

Rode NTG-1 Kit: A good deal?

Thanks, Alcove! I think I'll go with the DR-100mkII as the recorder. For mics, it might be worth it for me to save up for the NTG-3, since anything below that has considerably lower gain. Or, is there an in-between NTG-2 and NTG-3 mic that would work nicely as well? Thanks for the help so far!

Rode NTG-1 Kit: A good deal?

Had an incredibly busy 3 weeks at work, so haven't really browsed much more audio gear. However, I did find this kit that looks like a pretty good deal. The one thing I don't really like is that the recorder itself is a lot larger than the other models, so it usually mounts on the tripod the...

    Question about sharpness and aliasing.

I have it turned all the way down because it's the only way to avoid the nasty aliasing/moire - I also do it to allow more freedom in post in determining how much I want to sharpen it, rather than just picking a number on the camera and hoping it'll look good. Of course, there's still aliasing...

    Question about sharpness and aliasing.

I have my sharpness turned all the way down and can still get really sharp images - even with the crap kit lens. I will sometimes add a small bit of sharpness back in Final Cut, though, depending on what the scene is. I shot something recently and used the sharpness filter to bring out more...

    Choosing a camera

Sorry it took me so long to respond, crazy week at work! Haha. Anyway, yes, the T3i is a very decent camera, but it does seem to produce a fair bit of noise even at fairly low ISOs (anything more than 400), so for low-light you really need to make sure you have lenses that can open up wide...

    Actor with Gigantism

Shoot from lower angles, use some forced perspective, and add platform shoes and you could even make a shorter-than-the-rest actor look so much taller than the others. :P Be creative! You'll find a way that'll almost certainly be easier than locating a man of that height! :)

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

Well, I went ahead and did it anyway - I bought the month-to-month Creative Cloud subscription to see how well I would like it. I LOVE IT. Seriously, After Effects and Photoshop alone make this subscription entirely worth it. SpeedGrade is fantastic, I can make my footage look pretty darned...

    Choosing a camera

Definitely check out the Blackmagic cameras - they offer amazing quality and they're fairly affordable compared to other cameras. They shoot in raw or ProRes which gives you a lot of flexibility with special effects work and color grading! Otherwise, if you can't quite afford that kind of...

    BLACK MAGIC WINS AGAIN

Blackmagic are certainly becoming quite the influential company! That is definitely a lot cheaper than anything Red has to offer... a completely upgradeable camera with a wonderful built-in monitor? Screw the 4K production cam, this thing looks like a beast!

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

Ooh, I will keep a close eye on that! Since it's that close I'll hold off buying a CC subscription - had more second thoughts about it anyway once I realized that 1) the only way I could justify it was if I shot something every day 2) the only way I could afford it was if I gave up my cell...

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

See, this is my major concern too - I'm still working two minimum wage jobs in order to afford the equipment and software I need, and so the monthly charge does sort of make me weary. But if I can earn some sort of extra income from doing video work, then I could try to use that to pay for it...

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

Yeah, for full access to the Creative Cloud, it's $50/month, which sounds like a lot at first until you look at what you get. Instead of spending close to $2000 (or above!) for the entirety of a Creative Suite, it's just $600/year for ongoing access, and you don't get charged extra for any...

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

Bump again, haha! Sorry. :\ Just wanted to say I will definitely be going with Adobe Creative Cloud. I read a lot of reviews, read lots of the fine print, and I don't see any immediate downsides - I only see very immediate upsides! Plus, the features of Ae CC alone are well worth the CC...

    Any BMPCC Users?

I was about to sort of argue (in a friendly fashion! :D ) this, and then I saw this on the same wikipedia page I linked to... I thought 1080p was 2K because of the highlighted text... then I saw that it's the TOTAL pixel count, and now I feel very silly because I should've realized that from...

    Any BMPCC Users?

My next camera is probably going to be the Pocket Cinema Camera, now that Blackmagic have fixed all of the white orbs and black hole issues. I currently have the T3i which does a nice enough job for my current learning! Once I learn a bit more about cinematography, I know I definitely want a...

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

Sorry for bumping, but I was wondering if any of you guys know of good DVD/Blu-ray burning software for Mac that I could use to replace FCP X's completely featureless DVD/Blu-ray options? I'm still up in the air as to whether or not I should stick with FCP X or bite the bullet and sign up for...

Dang, that's a shame. I was hoping to get my name changed too! I wonder if it's a technical limitation of the forum software?
