editing FCPX files on hardrive - Urgent

Wow, Apple really did do a number on that version, didn't they? I'd never use a piece of software that didn't allow for a forced save. Closing FCPX will surely save it though? You say it's on an external, but you must have an internal drive also, right? Copy it to there. Burn it to CD/DVD...

tv-writing TV series based on religion?

Now, now. I don't think that's fair. It seems to be a virtue of just about any religion! CraigL

Brain Storming Ways To Make Shorts Profitable

Networking and cross-promoting like would go a huge way to rapidly increasing your social footprint. Ugh... did I just use a marketing slang word? CraigL

How's the Canon T4i for low light?

Actually, you probably will get marginally better results with the T4i, as it uses the newer Digic 5 processor, rather than the Digic 4 in the T2i/T3i. Low light handling was supposedly improved in it IIRC, although I don't think I ever saw much to convince me. CraigL

    Colorist Game

Oh, I can't say I like this particular one. It's a really old, discontinued model from here: http://www.xritephoto.com/ The model I had couldn't even be installed on Win7 as the drivers weren't signed, just to give you an idea of how old it is. I will upgrade the hardware at some point, as...

    Colorist Game

I was thinking about that after I posted it, and on one hand, you're right. It would show the target and selected equally bad if it were off. However, in a subtle sense, I think it might have still helped in so much as I could immediately see my blue was a little too purple, and move away from...

Does my idea remind you of 'Looper'

It sounds like it here, but make it your own. Maybe he kills his young self but he doesn't disappear. Maybe this is his twin, an imposter, a doppleganger, he was tricked into killing him and now has to figure out who tricked him and why. Maybe it was his future self that was actually the bad...

    Social Brain Wave: News

Haha... Commitment! That's what it's all about. Gotta point out though, the stars should be rotating around Polaris... it is the one that moves very little, being almost directly in line with the earth's rotational axis (1 degree or so). Pretty cool. CraigL

    Pro Res - windows alternative?

I think the fact that I had forgotten about was not being able to encode ProRes on windows... or so I thought. I found this http://www.cinemartin.com/cinec/ that claims to be able to do it, and they have a 1080 version for free. I've not looked into it at all, but I wonder if that might be...

Best Editing Pc for under $1,000

Actually, checking the specs on the Gateway site, and both 4870 models have a 300W supply. Seems that 300W is pretty typical for these branded PCs; my i7 Gateway also had only a 300W supply. And that's good for very little more than the PC comes with, hardware wise. And for a graphics card...

    Colorist Game

It definitely is, yeah. Oh, and one other little detail I just remembered; I have calibrated even my work monitors with my colour calibrating system (just a cheapy Spyder rip-off). Been a year or more though, I should remember to bring it in and recalibrate. OK, maybe not a little detail...

Best Editing Pc for under $1,000

I don't know how you could upgrade to an i7, it's a totally different chipset driving it, if not a completely different socket. The prebuilt machines can be a decent price when a special is found. My i7 (also a Gateway) cost me like $800 on a Future Shop (local electronics store) special...

NEW Sigma f1.8 Zoom lens $799 for 18-35mm

That is true for physical sizes, but as IDOM pointed out, when shooting 16x9 the vertical size used is much closer (if not slightly smaller) than APS-C. The S35 physical sensor size is much closer to a 4:3 ratio. CraigL

    Colorist Game

I'm at work, just on a cheapy BenQ monitor. It's not a bad monitor, but nothing special. I think having done a bit of painting, as well as the work practising colour grading helped. I'm also the sort of person that both crams a metric shitload of information down my throat when I'm starting...

Best Editing Pc for under $1,000

Most of those boxed machines come with something in the order of a 300W supply and don't come with the plug for video cards. Most after market cards nowadays require more than that just for themselves, so they will recommend at least a 600W, and preferably a 750W supply. So, adding a card in...

Brain Storming Ways To Make Shorts Profitable

Honestly, as much as I'd love to think there is a market for shorts per se, I really don't think there is. The analogy about magazines and compendiums I think is flawed. People don't buy a magazine or compendium for one specific person normally. Sure, you can get people interested, but by and...

Best Editing Pc for under $1,000

The graphics card itself is very easy; open it up and unscrew the backplate, pull it out, insert new one, screw it down. In this machines case, it's probably integrated into the MB, so there'll be nothing to take out. The PSU is likely much harder, especially in those small cases. Make very...

    Pro Res - windows alternative?

Not sure what you're asking here. Is this to transcode, or to get similar handling from recorded ProRes files? If your machine handles h264 without issues, there isn't much need to transcode I don't think, unless you're encoding back and forth between an external VFX package. If your footage...

    Colorist Game

Fun, managed a 9.8, but the worst part was waiting for it to finish! When you get the colour close, you can't tell how much time is left any more. The urge to move the mouse a little bit to see cost me a perfect on one, I ended up just having to let the mouse go and sit back! The hardest...
