    Lone Ranger thread.

From what I've heard, it's still worth seeing. Apparently the first half is really extremely good, but it suffers from a flashback format (which keeps upsetting the rhythm) and curious choices of music especially near the end. I want to see Armie Hammer anyway. But I'll wait until the hype...

Is it unprofessional to do an online casting call?

I like to have them bring two, as I said, one in case I don't like the first. I like them to know that so they don't think I'm just dissing the first one. I'm comfortable in my ability to direct them, I want to see what they can bring to the table on their own. It might be nothing like I...

Low-budget movies that hit it big.

Wow. While I don't agree with some of the sentiments here, G had a realistic point: "articles" like the one originally linked that imply $7K produced a movie that grossed $2MM (GROSSed only, not even profit) are bullshit. But NO-ONE can refute that $7K did what was needed to get that same...

Iron Sky movie makers join the bandwagon

Haha, thanks for the update rayw. I wish I liked the first one more than I do, but it sure looked pretty good! CraigL

Is it unprofessional to do an online casting call?

We've accepted numerous taped auditions. Not nearly as interactive, but it gives you a good idea whether it's worth pursuing. One thing though, is after sending them the side, I like to have them provide two interpretations of the role. Just in case their first one is way off from what I had...

Low-budget movies that hit it big.

I kind of agree with G here. To imply that Rodriguez spent $7K and that incarnation went on to gross $2MM is completely false. That doesn't in any way detract from the fact that Rodriguez spent $7K and made a film that attracted enough attention to get the financing needed to produce the film...

color-grading Color grading looks more like 'digital', than 'film'.

It sounds like you're implying that colour grading is something unique and specific to the digital domain, which couldn't be further from the truth. People like Dale Grahn have been grading films with chemicals and timers since forever. The so-called Bleach Bypass look evolved in the chemical...

Room Noise ( 30 sec of Silence)

As G mentioned, you probably have some quiet bits before and after they speak, right? It's a bit of a pain, but you could grab a few of those, careful join them up (overlapping and crossfading if needed) to produce a usable roomtone, certainly better than none. And even with music, you'd still...

    Feedback on script

Just for the record here, cruel to be kind, I can deal with, we're all here to get better. If you read around here, you'll see very little pandering going on. But the one post to me sounded like it was going a bit deep into the "making fun of" realm, which is an altogether different thing...

    David Lynch on Product Placement.

I don't think he has an issue with having a brand name in there, he's used it before. One of his movies mentioned some beer specifically by name. I think he's simply referring to using it simply for the sake of advertising, and writing around it. I'm looking at you Castaway. But I must...

    Feedback on script

Interesting, as I tried the Final Draft demo and preferred Celtx also, perhaps because that's what I started on. And I love the Celtx team, not only for technical support but for the Seed program, competitions and stuff that they do to encourage the community in general. I ended up buying the...

Would such a thing be possible?

The impression I got was this is his first attempt at writing a script, hardly a day job. If it is his first attempt, then partnering with someone who will work with him to produce a final product seems like a reasonable exchange. While I appreciate trying to protect what seems to be your...

    Feedback on script

It's used and not used. I like it, and I use it, as do many others. As I said, if I were sending it off to be read, I wouldn't. "cringeworthy" is not really a thought I've ever had, and I've never found myself taken out of the story with it there. The rest is just seemingly to angrily...

editing Better to not use a flat color profile in this case?

Not wrong at all, many high profile DSLR shooters say that you should set it up in camera, for just that reason. Shooting flat can give you a bit of an advantage for some things, but it's quickly lost if you have to grade it too much in post. CraigL

Would such a thing be possible?

Yeah, far better to have it sit in a drawer and never looked at! CraigL

    Feedback on script

I actually thought the montage was a pretty decent way of showing a lot of information (building a car) in a one minute film. Also considering the format, the titles of MAN, NURSE and GIRLFRIEND I feel are quite appropriate. I think you'll have trouble editing this into 1 minute, the dialogue...

Would such a thing be possible?

Nothing wrong with that at all. If someone likes the idea but thinks the script needs work or wants some changes, it'd be good experience for how the rewrite process works. The director and/or producer will almost always want to work it a bit to conform to their vision, resources, locations...

    What is a short film?

What you're asking is very subjective; a short film is just that, a film, but shorter. Some are definitely a whole little story, some are definitely little more than a sequence from a larger film. In fact, making a short from a sequence in a feature film to have as an example of what the...

    Trigger Street and Jameson's

Someone mentioned Trigger Street on here a while ago, I had only found it a few days before but I must say, I really like it. It's got a great feel to it, and I'd suggest anyone who hasn't checked it out should do so: http://labs.triggerstreet.com/ I had stumbled upon them after find the...
