    Post shoot blues

Everyone will deal with this in their own way, but the platitude "we learn more from our mistakes than our successes" I think bears much truth in situations like this. Rather than a lack of coverage, sound and continuity issues, you've got a huge amount of material to learn from and...

    editing Hit Film ultimate

HitFilm is a great product. It is a basic editor, but it's strength definitely isn't there. Primarily, it's a 3D compositing, VFX, particle engine, 2D/3D tracking program. It works best with another editor for the actual edit. I think it's editing capabilities are better than AE for example...

Film in Three Month - Production Stage

Cool, what recipe did you use? I've got need for a lot more than we used in the last short we did (bleh, too lazy to upload the image somewhere to reference it here...) CraigL

Where do you hold your casting call?

I'm surprised... Libraries are funded by the residents of the community, and they're there to provide a service, which includes books for loan and frequently space for residents to use. Honestly, if your auditions weren't going to include shouting or any such things that might actually be...

Camera for a documentary on a budget

If you're comparing the non-L Canon, the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 is generally considered superior to the Canon f/1.4 lens. CraigL

I think we've moved well beyond that. Please stop posting just for the sake of posting. CraigL

    editing Foley Work

To me, this is a WAY better question to ask (or a better way to ask the question), especially in addition to introducing your Foley experience. A quick scan of Foley/audio threads on this forum will cement an understanding that most first-timers do NOT have a sufficient knowledge of the...

    editing Music Video Workflow

TheArtist might be better able to elaborate, but yes, if you use the "Dynamic Linking" method, when AE renders, it will essentially only use one thread (or one core) to process one frame at a time. If you render from an AE native project, you can specify the number of cores to use, so it can...

    editing Foley Work

Dude... Chill out. You're obviously professionally employed in Foley, I don't get how you can't understand that people who take the time out of their non-professionally-movie-biz employed lives to try and answer/help are a little annoyed that you started out with questions that you most clearly...

AT4053b mic, Sound Devices MM1 and Tascam DR-40 combo audio question

Thanks for the followup, that's very useful. By the way, I just went to the link and they've already added it to the list. CraigL

    editing Music Video Workflow

If this is the "dynamic linking" method, then do be aware that you'll decimate your performance, as dynamically linked AE projects will no longer render multithreaded... at least last I heard, which was CS6. Might not be a big deal for grading, but definitely for more complex compositions. CraigL

Want to record in 2:35:1 AR but need a mask on camera display?

If you load Magic Lantern on the camera, you can use whatever cropmarks you want, just also have an image for it on the card, select it in the settings, and you're all set. CraigL

    Miley Cyrus goes raunchy.

I think it is a purely business decision on her part. She's trying to one-up Lady Gaga in controversiality; there's no such thing as bad publicity. The fact that she's a role model from her Hanna Montana days makes it very disgraceful. My (and my families) choice, just walk away. CraigL

What I learned on my first feature

Ah, I was wondering if it was something like that, as opposed to just a moniker for something. Yeah, we go through as many official routes as possible, but the organizations like that I hadn't thought of. Something to add to the list for sure! Thanks for the info and the updates. Project...

What I learned on my first feature

What do you mean your "local service club"? Curious, as finding locations is always a beast of an issue. CraigL

    Makeup and Prosthetic Tips Anyone?

Good on you! It's such a complex subject though, and fairly materials dependent. Your best bet, I think, is to google/youtube search and find something that you think best fits with your material, equipment, expertise and time. CraigL

Short vs Feature Film - Seeking advice from my peers!

Good advice for any sort of gambling, which is basically what this is. CraigL

    Wow, what a horrible video.

Maybe it's popularity is a knee-jerk response to the visually overwhelming, flashy, ultra-fast cuts, seizure inducing rubbish that so many music videos are? Personally, I don't care for the song, found it way too monotonous, so in that regard (as pointed out), it's Perfect! =) CraigL

    Old Boy remake coming up!

Yeah, I must admit, I stopped watching, I really didn't like how he was presenting himself at all. I mean, he can't be that stupid to not have known that this feeling was a) going on out there and b) going to be an issue to defend. He should have been way better prepared, and even armed with...

Bitten off more than I can chew for a first short?

Moonlight is typically presented as blue, it isn't, but that reads well as moonlight in films. You can either gel the lights with a ctb gel, or you can white balance on a orangy surface, those yellow/orange office envelopes work well. I'd suggest gelling the lights, as then the other lights in...
