    Unable to install Magic Lantern

This sounds like you're trying to use the CAMERA for the SD card reader, which IIRC will not work. You need to format the card in the camera, then put it in an SD reader, then transfer the files. I think all you can copy to the camera via the built-in USB is images. CraigL

How to make video look like movies from the late 80s/early 90s?

Umm... actually, this isn't giving credit to the artists that manipulated to look of many films before digital. Colour grading was absolutely done an awful lot pre-digital, although it was referred to as colour timing due to the fact that it originated by adjusting the time the film spent in...

    Production Diary: Music Video

With your new jib, you could stick that out a window from that tower thing you and do some sweeps or pedestals with it, kind of simulating the flying part. CraigL

treatment Treatments for well known successful movies

Ah, I found those, but looked at the Spiderman and the Strange Days ones, which looked like full-blown scirpts. I hadn't noticed those little subheadings in the table. CraigL

    cinematography Death of the DSLR?

The Blackmagic Pocket camera is similar sized to a Super 16mm film stock. "The Hurt Locker" was shot on 16mm film stock, didn't seem to slow down or limit Barry Ackroyd when he shot it. Here are some others shot on 16mm: http://shotonwhat.com/filmwidth/16mm-film-width Now, having said that...

treatment Treatments for well known successful movies

I haven't come across any site that focuses on treatments, nor any real treatments per se. I'm not sure if that's because few movies get one, or if it gets lost and forgotten soon after the real writing starts and it's too late once the movie makes it big. CraigL

    Feedback on script

It's pretty good, nice and easy to shoot, with some interesting things like VFX for the scopes and some practical FX like the bullet hits. Aside from what was mentioned, I'd make this comments: The line "I'm here for the girl" seems a bit obvious to me. What the hell else would he be there...

From your directing point of view...

A quick run down. I don't need to see your name at the start; when I'm watching, I'm probably not going to think "Ah Lukas, that's the guy I wanted to see", I'm going to think "Ah, that's the look I want". I do like the beginning image. The montage goes on a little long, it should be more like...

    Interested in making a documentary

And interestingly enough, it had been REJECTED by Sundance, wasn't it? Always found that funny. Never saw the film, not very interested in American gridiron. But I loved that Sundance rejected it and it went on to not only get distribution, but win a flipping Oscar. CraigL

    legal matters

Pffft... I think ONLY the lawyers win in court, the rest of us get screwed, or get screwed a little less. =) CraigL

editing What NLE Do You Use?

I use Vegas Movie Studio (the cheap version) and HitFilm Ultimate. I tried all the cheap versions when I started, and Vegas was the only one I managed to get something actually edited and rendered in a reasonable amount of time. I like it. That said, it definitely lacks on the collaborative...

Ask me questions, help me promote my studio.

Hi Rusty, To echo the others, it is nice to see the first post being so open, and welcome. I'm involved with a local organization who's mandate is to help local artists in general. My specific focus is on providing equipment and services for local digital filmmakers; we are also getting a...

Advice on shooting a movie in the middle of nowhere?

It's always a good idea to know who owns the land you're using, and determine what it's used for. If it's a hunting ground for example, especially this time of year. Once you've determined that, you can decide on permits and such. You'll also need to carefully plan for safety, medical...

EVERYTHING I've EVER wanted in a movie!

Depending on your equipment, and the desired effect, it can be very challenging shooting at night. Unless you have a great camera, and a decent set of lights, you're probably going to be disappointed. The best thing you can do is run some tests first, see what worked what didn't, rinse and...

EVERYTHING I've EVER wanted in a movie!

Actually, it was William Faulkner I believe who first said that; well, he said "kill your darlings". And it specifically referred to looking extra critically at the shots, scenes or sequences that are your favourite, and ensuring they do, as you indicate, contribute to the story. This is a...

Who to bring on during development?

Few things, I can think of: 1) For the campaign, look into getting some sort of publicist involved, someone who can focus on the community you need to build around you to get your tribe excited, as well as continually push the social media channels to get more and more people interested and...

    Post shoot blues

Doesn't sound odd at all! My crew and I are doing just that, working on some 1-2 pages scripts that focus heavily on one aspect (specific lighting, fancy camera moves, VFX, SFX, sound) the really be able to get everyone firing on all cylinders. This time of year is tougher also, with school...

Trouble is, this is just that, a film MAKING forum, not a script/screenwriting specific forum. Most of us I think just choose "Film Script" from the list in the editor of our choice and start typing. We'd have to Google it for you, which Rayw did. CraigL
