    Conversation scenes.

Beyond what has been mentioned, if you are mastering below your shooting resolution you can play around with cropping out a better shot without any loss in quality. I shot 4k and mastered in 2k which gave me the luxury of reframing shots at my leasure. I don't know that I'd recomend it, but it...

action Overusing words in action lines - "look" "sit"

You want to be careful with using adjectives, and never use an adverb. Adverbs are supplements used to make the wrong verb fit. Take for example the following lines: The family sits around the kitchen table - sterile, specific, bland, free of any sense of mood The family relaxes around the...

    Academics: Predicting a Script's Success

I think it's a fairly reasonable assumption to make. Malcolm Gladwell wrote an article about this in 2004. I wrote to the company that provides this service and asked if it was the exclusive domain of studios and the confirmed that predicting a films potential revenue was contingent upon knowing...

    Collaboration?

meetup.com has screenwriting groups in most major cities. Find one near you, or start one. See who's style you like and ask them to colaborate. I'm curious why you want a partner specifically?

Product Place Me - a new, free service for product placement

I've actually pitched that idea at a few people I'm glad someone is running with it. Could work for books, blogs, or video games as well. It's a fantastic revenue stream. Covering costs and bringing a production closer to profitability should loosen the reigns of creative control on larger...

    Editing Advice

You live in NJ, so if you can make it into NYC you should be able to get an entry level gig editing for one of the networks. By which I mean never doing any editing and spending all of your time ripping tapes and transcoding. Then you climb to assistant editor and so on until you are an editor...

    How do you get inspired?

Read open culture, mental floss, and watch 2 dozen TED talks. Digest. Look for connections. Concoct absurd metaphor. Write a framework around that. Figure out who lives in that frame work. SET A DEADLINE AND HAVE SOMEONE ENFORCE IT! Pour that whole mess over a story structure. All of the...

    style standards for Laurels?

I did a search for laurels earlier and found that. Nice little application. I ended up using to make an individual laurel for each award and nomination. I'm still not sure that's correct, but I have to do something. I also tossed the developer a few dollars for his next project on indiegogo...

    Jackass 3D

150% profit in the first weekend. It'll go for as long as they want with numbers like that.

    Basic Grammar Question

Pretty much. From a first person you can only use "we" if you can speak for the group. It is in this capacity that the Queen of England can use "we" to describe the citizenry of Great Britain as a whole. Otherwise it becomes "they". In the 3rd person, a family is a group term so "it" is...

    style standards for Laurels?

Are there any style standards for Laurels? I've got 3 official selections so far, of the 2 we've already done we had 6 nomiations, and 3 wins. I have to put all of that in my press kit and I can't find any uniform standards for how they should be composed or presented. If I win an award at a...

    Jackass 3D

This was without question the best use of 3-D I have ever seen. Best use of slow motion as well. I'm not sure that this would work as well in any other format though. It works in Jackass because you are not expecting it to feel cinematic nor to emerse yourself in it.

    I need some style

Casual - black wing tips, black socks, very dark blue jeans (not black, not tight, not baggy), white button up shirt, black belt, watch with black leather band. Punch up the outfit with a dark grey blazer, a tie, or both. Formal - Dark grey suit, Dark tie, white shirt, wing tips, dark grey...

    I'm here to admonish you.

If I can't rewind I can't deal with subtitles which does away with a lot of movies I want to see.

Am I The Only One Who Doesn't Like "Avatar"?

There were some bits in the story that left quite a bit to be desired. For example, Norm was a snappy, jealous, dick for 5 minutes then Jake just mentions in one of his logs that Norm is not being a dick anymore. I never got why they'd go down that road if they weren't going to do anything...

    Best Use of VO?

VOs only have a bad name because too many films have used them for exposition. Dodge that bullet and you've got a really powerful tool at your disposal. My first script was laden with VO.

What are your opinions about using the terms: We See or We Hear, CUT TO, ANGLE ETC,

I'd took that a step further and hired a DP that had his own camera. This allows you to use the $ on the talent not the rental. Try to find someone with a good reel that is looking for the right project. If the DP likes your project he may be willing to work around budget constraints.
