    logline loglines wtf

It doesn't matter if you are selling it or not. There are at least 2 other places where your logline will matter. 1) When someone is deciding whether or not to see your movie I feel like I'm hawking copies of Save the Cat on here, but Snyder really nailed this subject. Imagine I tell my...

story Is this even a good story?

I strongly disagree. Crushing our hopes for a fairytale ending has been done a number of times in successful films. Bridges of Madison County, Citizen Kane, American Beauty, Braveheart, and An Education all did this in one way or another.

Starting my first feature screenplay, but need help

Agreed, Snyder is mostly good for organization and tracking, but I think that's mostly what the TS was asking about.

Starting my first feature screenplay, but need help

I'm a big advocate of Blake Snyder's Save the Cat method, but I am not too rigid about it. Do a log line, then a beat sheet. Those are just excersizes to get the idea kind of firm in your head. The best thing he had to offer was "the board". The board looks like the picture above. It's 4...

Creating a local film group and festival

As someone who has been screened and did need the exposure, I think you'd be surprised just how appreciated people like you are. It's a fantastic thing you do.

action Overusing words in action lines - "look" "sit"

Here is a link to about "About 183,000 results" from script consultants and analysts the world over who all reenforce that there is little to no place for modifiers in a screenplay. While you have proven that poor writing can be produced, and can yeild a good film, you havent provided any case...

action Overusing words in action lines - "look" "sit"

I'll bite... If you have a verb that describes the action you are trying to describe, what does the adverb contribute?

story Is this even a good story?

It sounds like there is a lot of potential. I really like this story. I think the overall arc has a lot of room for personal conflicts and thus, good drama. I like the main character. She is flawed in a way that too many female leads are not. You haven't sheltered her at all and I really love...

    logline Thoughts on my logline

There's a podcast on itunes called On The Page hosted by script consultant Pilar Alisandra. The podcast has 2 entire episodes dedicated to the subject of loglines and had a number of solid tips and insights. I keep both episodes on my iphone and listen to them before I start a logline strategy...

cool new way to get funding

I crowd funded about a quarter of my trip to Cannes. It looked very effective until I did the breakdown and saw that the money was essentially coming from 5 or 10 big donors and if I had found more of them I could have saved all the effort needed in crowd funding.

    Writers Doubts??

Everyone gets that. There are whole books about the subject. Just trudge through, then put it away for a week or 2. re-read and if you still don't like some of it, fix it in the re-write.

    editing ADR

Heavy blankets are a good alternative to foam and are usually readily acceptable. Drape them over anything to get a makeshift sound booth. A refrigerator box would work, but some pvc pipes or mic stands would do just as well with no chance of an echo. Be aware of what in the room makes noise...

action Overusing words in action lines - "look" "sit"

That's cute, but save for internet explorer I have the luxury of a spell check. I am sure better writers than myself would never suffer a typo but I think you'll find that what one posts in an online forum will do little to cause Shakespeare to spin in his grave. I will grant you that there...

action Overusing words in action lines - "look" "sit"

I wouldn't tell a carpenter to build without a hammer, but I would tell him to build a house without legos. That the adverb is a tool doesn't mean it is correct for the job. It is fine to be inconsise or inarticulate if you are not a writer. In that case an adverb is a fine tool. If you know...

    Writers Doubts??

In my experience, the only people that don't second guess themselves are people too dumb to know that they aren't any good. Talented people always second guess themselves because they are striving for perfection and know that they don't have it. The good news is that no one has ever writen a...

action Overusing words in action lines - "look" "sit"

Please understand that this is not a question of style. It is a mater of right and wrong. Good composition and poor composition. As for telling the authors you cited, I would tell them myself but they are dead. I would point out that an established writer getting away with something doesn't...

    Is this a good "Idea"?

I like the idea. It reminds me of a discussion I once had about how you could easily make a commercially viable teen comedy by stringing together 5 - 10 texts from textsfromlastnight.com. It's not my thing per se, but wherever you get your inspiration, best of luck going out and making something.

    Writing Tip

I think a case could definately be made for most writers trying too hard. They try to incorporate too much. They try too hard to make things "unusual". Typically it feels too forced. The rules are pretty simple: Figure out the story you want to tell Decide the conflict of the scene The...
