What are the gels used for?

Window screen? Really? Wow? It produces a smooth effect?

I really like to hear the personal stories from directors. Lights a fire under my ass when needed. Wish there were more books out there like RWAC. I guess I'll have to do with special features DVD's in the meantime...

Thanks for the heads up indi... would you recommend something else besides pillow case? I have gels but never use them, is this when I should put them to use? I don't even know what the gels do...

The only thing that bothers me is I feel like the skin color on her doesn't look right, which makes me think I need to adjust a setting on my camera. Doesn't her skin color look a little "hot"?

I just finished reading Robert Rodriguez's book, Rebel Without a Crew, and I actually really enjoyed it. I found it very inspiring and motivational as well. It made me want to pick up my camera and start shooting ANYTHING. Anyone read this before or have another book or article to share?

I put together a movie from a surf trip to El Salvador last month. This is my first one and there will probably be more in the future. After making this video, I definitely see some areas where I need improvement but I'll shutup and let whoever wants to critique. Feel free to be share anything...

I like the concept of using different external hard drives... It's not that big pain in the ass now. It just was during the time I was constantly moving files around to get all of my hard drives balanced. Thanks for the suggestions.

I did a quick light test in my room this morning. While my sister was on her computer, I turned on my softbox and did two shots: one with just the softbox on and the second with a pillow case over the softbox. Just wanted to post it here and get some pointers. Maybe the iris is open too much...

What hard drive do you use? And do you delete the render files and all that once you are finished?

I feel as if editing goes a lot slower when using an external, no? Also, I capture footage with firewire so I have to now use usb for my external. Not that big of an ordeal, just wish I had tower...

I use a Lowel kit. One of the basic packages. I knew nothing about lighting when I bought it and I've learned a lot so far. It comes with a case and is pretty easy to set them up and put them away. I would recommend it, especially for a newcomer.

Thanks for the input alex. I like the idea of finding a greenhorn composer willing to work for free. Sounds like a real pain the in the ass but it's part of being an indi filmmaker, right?
