    archived-videos Time Out - a 48 hour film

thanks guys! definitely one of the strangest characters we've had for a 48! Most of the films sort of revolved around the character because, well, it's hard to put a living statue into your film organically! We hadn't got beyond the softest of sci-fi, MissingProductions, but the general...

archived-videos The Finnisher (Fish our of Water - 48 Hour Film Project San Diego 2014)

Congrats and well done! Yeah, the fight choreography was fantastic (no one around here even tries that in a 48!) but well done for the nominations! Maybe you'll land one next year!

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Guardians of the Galaxy is exactly as fun as everyone has been saying. Best description I've heard: it's like if Farscape met Firefly and had baby Avengers. As for how to rate it, I don't even know how to rate the Marvel movies separately anymore, but this was definitely among my favorites...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

The way I've always seen the appearance of Jill is this: Sam is an unreliable narrator...we see his dream, and then we see his "dream girl." But does she really look like the girl in his dreams (obviously she does to us, but again we're seeing things from Sam's perspective), or does she just...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

I'm a big proponent of the distinction between quality and taste (and have gone on in this very thread about it before! At length!) I love some movies I think are terrible and can't stand some movies I think are actually really great. And I agree with all of you that not everyone does or...

Seeking Advice. First Project. 48hr-film contest.

Hahahah...thanks for the kind words! Everyone at the screening told me that, but there was a musical in the best-of, and the musical always wins. I think my music was better and better recorded (also it was a musical without vocals, which seemed more "silent film" than "musical" to me, but...

    archived-videos Time Out - a 48 hour film

It is a blast! Crazy work, but tons of fun all around! Make sure you post yours when you can! This one was the team that did more pre-production (nicknamed Team Tortoise). Like the fable, they finished before Team Hare and even had time to do some re-shoots on Sunday!

    The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

YES. But also, this will be the last Tolkien film (unless someone decides to adapt the story of Beren and Luthien...I doubt we'll see the Silmarillion as a whole). There's a sort of impending sadness that tempers the excitement. On the other hand, there's nothing about this that didn't make...

    archived-videos Time Out - a 48 hour film

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwLOENgZ9hw This year, my 48 hour team sort of split into two...both teams shared resources and the films are connected, but the two founders of the team wanted to try different approaches. The first team shot as usual, going for speed and efficiency. The...

Congrats and good job! Crossing the finish line is an achievement to be sure, and it must have been a challenge coordinating people so far apart! Seconding 603, make sure you post it when you can so we can see it! My best-of is tonight (and one of the films is in!) so hopefully they'll be...

Marvel will publish Star Wars comics.

I grew up reading the Marvel Star Wars books back in the early 80s. I liked them, but I haven't gone back to them so I don't know how well they've held up. Dark Horse has done some great stuff over the years with Star Wars (and other books, of course). I still haven't read their adaptation of...

archived-videos Doors In The Labyrinth - Winter (WIP)

Rough drafts continue! Track 7 (follows Winter): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cm11yMUmMHw I think I need to replace the opening shot with the shot of the trees from the Winter video to sell the connection a little better.

series George Lucas says ESB is the worst film in the series.

I dig the Machete Order as a concept. But I think an edit of the prequels would serve it better (I haven't watched the Phantom Edit, but that's another thing out there). As mentioned on the site: Episode I has some redeemable moments, such as the tension in the final duel after Qui-Gon is...
