Is it possible to make a 44 minute movie in 10 days?

This right here. In fact, start right now for next year's submission.

    What's wrong with Hollywood?

No, you're wrong about the pizza ;) Seconding APE's point about art vs. pictures. I was never much a fan of Picasso or Rothko until I saw the pieces in person. Particularly the Rothko, I just didn't "get it" until I saw it in the right context. And seeing a film in a good theater is a...

    archived-videos Time Out - a 48 hour film

And now, they've finally posted the other film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWBxWUCZzIc Our team is doing the horror challenge in October too, so that should be fun! I've also thrown together an edit of some of the better bits of the music here...

    Community Project

chiming in, because I haven't, and won't really be relevant until post, but LegacyOfWax, definitely drop me a line. We should collaborate, be it orchestrating each other's melodies, or doing sound design for tunes! I want to make this as collaborative as everything else has been!

The Unofficial Song of the Day Thread

I've probably posted this before, but don't want to dig through the thread to find out. Either way, it needs to be topped: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwMkSvKoeUo

series True Blood series is over

I made it to about season 4, I think. I don't think I really disliked it, just never really cared to keep up with it. My girlfriend was a bigger fan, but even she stopped keeping up with it. She made it a lot further in the books than I did, but neither of us made it to the end. I have...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Finally caught up with some of the comic movies I've missed: Captain America 2: 7/10 I liked it FAR more than I liked the first, but that said, of the Phase 2 Marvel films, it's still my least favorite. Still, mention of Stephen Strange!!! More leadup to the next Avengers! Amazing...

The Unofficial Song of the Day Thread

But not a bad place to post hip-hop either. That Clipping track is SOLID. Some good stuff in the RTJ track, but my tastes run to solo mcs (though Run DMC was a staple of my youth). For me, a birthday tradition and then some https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSuvPuQM7qc

My Resignation From Film (Sort Of...)

as someone who has never picked up a camera, and never intends to, there's certainly a place around here for music folks! and hell, getting an education in it is a great idea; I wish I had done that! Best of luck and stick around!

Should a movie be judged from the time of it's release, or how well it stands today?

well, yeah, I agree with that. M has been retold in many ways that are more relevant to the age. I love the Exorcist, but it's HORRIBLY dated. Night of the Living Dead is intense only if you consider the era in which it was made. But on the other hand, I can't think of an example of...

    Sad truth of our legacy

the other way of looking at it is to embrace the mortality of art. We convince ourselves that our art is immortal; long after we are gone people will be able to see what we thought or felt. But that's not true. How much of the intense passionate art has been overlooked in favor of the pop...

Should a movie be judged from the time of it's release, or how well it stands today?

I've always had a problem with Kane. The whole film hinges on a plot hole from the beginning (no one could have possibly heard him say "rosebud") that's just too distracting to me. Compare and contrast, M is still solid, though dated. And Casablanca is a near perfect film...I'd argue much...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Paranoia Agent. Watch it now. You'll love it. I like Paprika a lot, but I didn't find it as out there or weird as most people seemed to. Probably says more about me than about the film. But even in the light of all of Kon's features (which are amazing, every one), I think Paranoia Agent is...

    Best Type Of Second Monitor

When I have cash for upgrades, I'd like to upgrade to a touchscreen second monitor, mounted near my keyboard. I did the pen-interface thing for a while, and while it was great for staving off RSI, drawing on a piece of paper a few feet away wasn't really any better workflow-wise than a mouse...

Mike Wilde's Opinion Of Indie Films--Amaateur

The word amateur comes from the French, "lover of". An amateur filmmaker is someone who loves filmmaking. I prefer to focus on that (and even if I never go pro, I love making film music)

Summer Glau is in "Peter Panzerfaust".

Well, yes and no. That IMDB entry is not for the TV Pilot, but for a motion comic adaptation of the comics (which does not seem to be out yet...I hate motion comics anyway). If you check out some of the news articles, you'll note that as of June of this year, the TV pilot hasn't been written...
