    What Are You Reading?

I haven't really been around much lately, so I've read a few things since last checking in. Finished the Wheel of Time re-read in February, and resisted the urge to start again at the beginning. I love those books so very much. Since then read: Rebecca - Daphne du Maurier Always meant to...

archived-videos Doors In The Labyrinth - Carcosa (True Detective fan video)

Thanks for listening, richy! Yeah, the show was intense...probably my favorite thing on tv that doesn't have dragons in it!

archived-videos Doors In The Labyrinth - Carcosa (True Detective fan video)

Fanedit style video from the show True Detective for my song "Carcosa". Obviously spoilers if you haven't seen the show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rd1f5ngpB4g The song is from my upcoming release as Doors In The Labyrinth. You can download it, as well as the other demos here...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Last night I watched Don Hertzfeldt's "It's Such a Beautiful Day" I don't know how I missed this before (but I've been pretty out of touch when it comes to animation these days). Absolutely stunning, provided you have a taste/tolerance for lo-fi animation. I was expecting morbid surrealism...

    What's your passion/talent?

I am a music guy. Most of the time, all I'm thinking about is music. I like every kind of music, and every kind of instrument, and want to be able to do it all. I can't hear music without wanting to make similar music myself. So, yeah. I do specialize because it is my passion. Of course...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

contrasting opinion (again; that really ought to be my username!), I loved the new Hobbit. Great fun, not perfect, but just about everything I could have wanted. There's a couple bits I'm sure will be smoothed out with the extended edition. Only two gripes from me: But the caveat to all of...

    dialogue writing heavy dialogue stuff

I'd also recommend Coffee and Cigarettes and Night on Earth, both by Jim Jarmusch. Both great examples of limited setting dialogue/character driven movies.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

And as a contrasting opinion, I'll say that "To Live" is a better film by the same director, but not in a "watch instead of" sort of way, but to say watch both. Both are amazing and essential films.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Finally got around to seeing the sequel to one of my favorite movies of all time, The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. It's a loving satire/homage to 50s sci-fi b-movies. If you love them, you will get the jokes and love the movie. The sequel, The Lost Skeleton Returns Again was more of the same...

far too kind words, Dready and Nick! seriously blushing over here! As far as promotion, I suck at that myself. I know you're hitting (and making waves) with some of the HP fan communities. Do you think maybe funny or die would work? Your humor is a lot more subtle than most so I'm not sure...

Indietalk Album of the Year 2014

I don't really like ranking music, and I didn't hear all that many new records this year, but here's a few I did like: Aphex Twin - Syro. (me too!) Great to have RDJ back. Alcest - Shelter. In addition to yet another great Alcest album (often blending metal and shoegaze, this record...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

I felt that having less to do with Captain America was the STRENGTH of that film! But I think Cap works best as a foil for other characters (I feel that way about the Hulk too). I also have a contrasting opinion on Snowpiercer. I loved it; part Gilliam, part Jeunet and a little bit Miike...

    What Are You Reading?

Glad you're digging Dune, richy! Be sure to read the last two post-Frank books (though the writing goes downhill really fast, but the story is worth it. But the prequel cash-grab books are all around terrible and can be avoided. I've been re-reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. Again. I'm...

sound If I were to learn an instrument for my projects, which would be best if just one?

As a musician, I absolutely encourage everyone to play. Even if you're never going to get beyond strumming a guitar in your living room, playing music is wonderful, a great way to connect with friends, and helps you appreciate listening even more. But the downside is it takes time. Lots of...

Once again, great work! I'm absolutely loving this, and am sad that you've only one more short right now. Hopefully you can get some more soon! And of course, glad that I could be involved!

    Where'd you get your username?

Last name is Loughrey. So, yeah. But when I self-release music, I use the name "gnarphlager records" gnarphlager was the first pronounceable string out of a burst of random typing in college as I was killing time. When I was younger I had a sort of "confrontational surrealist" vibe, so...

    Star Wars Ep 7 trailer.

yeah, just a teaser to get us interested. So for things to be interested in: 1) trooper that's not a clone (this has been addressed in Rebels, but I haven't started watching that yet) 2) X-Wings! Frell yeah! 3) Falcon action 4) Presumably child of Leia (and Han?) doing things. 5) badass...
