    Choosing a camera

Well done ++ Good thinking on the matter of twos. If you wanted to work with just one lens, consider a normal ~17mm (you can crop in post for slight tele as desired) This (perhaps down the road) opens up a wide category of glass: http://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPNFG-BMPCC-BM1

    Choosing a camera

You definitely sound like an ideal black magic buyer here. The BMPCC gives you what is needed to tell cinematic stories in the timeless mode (albeit without slomo) Coloring well is the learning curve (pun intended), and that will be prioritized with the logarithmic output of the magic. Check...

    Does previsualization work?

Actually literally meant 'pre shoot'; its a kind of 'technical rehearsal' (sound & image). The other piece to the puzzle is the actor's rehearsal, which ideally is done on location as well. Here, full attention is given to the performances; zero distraction from the technical

    Does previsualization work?

A cool workaround for indies where quality is critical: if you can use the location in advance, shoot a 'mock scene' with actor stand ins ahead of the real shoot. This helps in every way imaginable to guarantee a slam dunk (much more than just cinematography)

    sound Preamps in recorders

To get a sense of what I mean, about the post dialog editor bit, this will bring it all home. The dialog editor is the 'key piece' at the end of the signal chain... to rival the preamp: Before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpF6JPO1u9Q After: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hS-4H21O2Iw...

    sound Preamps in recorders

*The biggest free upgrade -- The 100mkII will get you much more gain and a bit less noise in the pre amp; not a game changer, but a bit more just in the area where you are looking for the most mileage. When the price difference between the 100 & 40 is so minimal, why not? Distance to mouth...

    sound Preamps in recorders

A plain mixer doesn't amplify the signal, it needs good a preamp - the most delicate/sophisticated piece o the puzzle. Good electronics in this regard = worth its weight in gold The mixer lets you optimize the voice level for how loud the person is speaking to saturate the track, and keep it...

    Does previsualization work?

Yes, it is often done through something called storyboarding, kind of like a comic book version of the movie. - Even better, pre shoot the scene on location with stand ins for the actors. You will get a much nicer end result

    sound Preamps in recorders

Get the mic as close to the mouth as possible - that will give good signal to noise ratio there, this is key Avoid battery powering the NTG-2, use phantom power instead And of course, the recorder/preamp is fundamental. The phantom ntg-2 is a solid base, and if you want 1st rate quality at...

    SAG actors in non-SAG film

There you go Better simply to go SAG if one is to hire SAG actors, and pay a decent wage. At the micro budget level, $100 a day is really nothing at all; what better a place to put production money than into the actors

    SAG actors in non-SAG film

The SAG actors risk their status if they are in a non union film, so they won't do it (given the difficulty of getting the status for non name actors). You could come in at the micro budget level under SAG guidelines - but there are regulations as to hiring non-union actors (have to first hire a...

    archived-videos Fix It In Post!

Fwiw, the biggest upgrade in Premiere history was from CS4 to CS5; you would really stand to benefit (the playback engine is a joy to work with) Also, you can use CC for a month at a cost of $20, as well as trial it for free. It'll really get the most out of your PC, & is much faster than CS5!

    NTG-2 and what recorder?

I can see where you are coming from here. The term professional is at work, which is the classic minefield, and admittedly a sloppy use. No, you won't get timecode, or back up lav tracks. And another to add to the list - bringing a daisy chain of audio bits to set is a added worry, because of...

    NTG-2 and what recorder?

Consider - if you've a piece in the signal chain that introduces a significant floor, other noise floor increases are obscured (give the NTG-2 a spin on SD, you'll be impressed - & not just by noise floor)

    NTG-2 and what recorder?

Actually, no. This is indietalk.com; the focus is on getting quality with out turning on the money hose. You could buy a 722/744t, but that is not such helpful advice for those trying to get audiophile feature quality on a budget. The cons are that they are terrible. As the first post seems to...
