Layton, are you still waiting? If so, good luck, you must be in the final round.

Dallas USA is a good one too. Hoping to hear from Atlanta in the next couple of days, but look like some are already twittering their acceptance. If mine doesn't resonant with Texas audiences I'm in trouble. Funny thing is, our test audiences were crying in the ailses as this is a tear jerker...

Local Dallas area talent, no big names of course. Did you shoot yours dslr? Looks great, I'm going to have to go that way though I've been fighting it.

Can't believe ENEMY OF THE MIND didn't get in from what I saw of it! This is the thing that rattles filmmakers to the core. Maybe Layton got in. If so, you can't talk about it until February 1st.

Done that way all the time. I filmed a girl who was trying for the government worker receptionist in "THE BLINDSIDE"

sound Should I get a composer before or after editing?

For me, I couldn't think of turning such an important role over to someone else on the indie level with indie money. The question is do you have editing and composing skills, which I believe I do. Today we have access to any music you could need. But you have to spend hours listening for the...

    Freelance videography questions

I know plenty of sucessful one camera videographers. Others may use one stationary camera. It's usually about the market you're after, as those seeking lower price points are more likely to hire you. But higher end clients can afford and more appreciate the difference in a one and two camera...

    funeral scene

Many indie directors make the mistake of attempting to shoot it the way they wrote it and the scene comes off as unreal and distractive. Shoot it safely so that if a gloomy day doesn't work in post, have the scene set up for a sunny day. Better it looks real than fake.

We'll know by the first, and still being in at this point says we got a good look. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

How do you keep going to the end?

Sometimes it helps to take a couple of days and completely get away from the project and catch up on other things. Or you can push ahead and write a very rough first draft, then when you start your second draft your thoughts would be a little more outlined.

Layton, looking at your trailer your film looks as good as some I've seen in prior sxsw festivals. But with 5000 films it's just tough.

I agree that if you don't hear pretty soon chances are slim of getting in. Especially features. Shorts, you probably have another week or so.

    Dallas is back.

My last day on the set we were in a downtown Dallas restaurant between scenes and one of the directors spied a waitress whom they fell in love with and put her in a scene with Hagman and Duffy. Discovered just like in the movies. And it does seem weird when Larry Hagman is standing at the...

Filming with a Treatment but no Script?

I wouldn't do this with a feature length. Up to about a 10 minute short maybe. What are your goals? If you want to be very good at what you do I don't think so. Or, maybe you want to be the best at filming features without a script, then maybe.

    Dallas is back.

I worked as an extra on the set of DALLAS - JR RETURNS - But I was there actually to study director Leonard Katzman.. When you see how the pros do it you are more comfortable when you strike out on your own set. Great to watch Hagman work. And when my actors get frustrated because they...
